The mod itself is supposed to flow more freely which will improve fuel economy, but after installing one it's hard to keep your foot out of it to check for sound and performance differences, so you end up using more gas...

Short rams will kill power FYI. These cars run super hot in the bay! The MAF will pull timing every so many degrees increase in temp and every new tier pulls more and more timing. The stock boxes are pretty damn good since they bring in an almost ram effect. I'd of gone drop ins and post tubes before short rams. Summer and summer traffic are going to be a complete downer. Just a heads up.

 

I had drop ins and HPS tubes. So from what you are saying, I am going to be really disappointed?

 

In summer, yeah maybe if you can butt feel 5-10-15-20 hp loss at certain temps when timing is pulled. The drop ins and post tubes make really nice power, not that far off from stillen gen 3's. The OEM boxes are sealed, have a ram air effect, made of plastic and silicone tubes. Now you have an open filter, less cold air intake, and metal tubes. Short rams are about the worst you can do. I'd run OEM before those. On a dyno you might see power increase but once they're heat soaked and the hoods closed, it's going to feel pretty sluggish.

O and you're in Florida? Metal can burn my hand in the engine bay, plastic and silicone can't if you think about that for a sec.

 

I didn't even think about that. I got such a good deal that I just jumped on them. I'll see how it goes and then decide what to do with them then. Thanks for the input Synolimit.

 

You could wrap the metal with DEI reflective tape, or a thermal sock, or something out there. As for the filters try and find a way to put them in a box or protective shield and then you could get some ducting to route cold air into the front of the "box" from the bumper opening. This has been done a lot.

 

I may just buy some aluminum pipe and extend it into a cold air. Time to bust out the welder.

 

hey, did you get any issues with the oxygen sensors when you did the mod? I have mine going off but they told me its because of the intakes and that even if i replace them they will go off again.
