couple of days in my IPL now...my quick review/comparison

Quick background- I came from a 2006 Mazda 6 MT. I loved that car, The Mazda 6 was modified with Eibach springs 1 " drop 17 wheels and all season performance tires and it was AWD. It was Turbo charged with 274 HP under the hood....

I had that car for years paid off and I gave it to my father because he needed a car. I decided that I should treat myself for getting a new job and got myself a 2012 IPL G coupe AT and this car compared to my Mazda.........errrrrr Infiniti somewhat missed the mark on handling.
Everything else well I can't tell a difference to be honest.

Positives -

*Infiniti's technology, the Music box, the Navigation, although the IPOD integration is giving me issues right now with the in and out connections.
The LSD-RWD everything is great with what they packed into this car. I smile ear to ear as I've been blessed with Luxury that you have to pay double for in a BMW or Mercedes...

Heated seats, moonroof wow....

*Under the Hood a naturally aspirated V6 that beats my Mazda Numbers wise but........

*Reliability the G37 feels solid, looks solid has a tried and true reputation from the land of Mt Fuji

NEGATIVES-

*Sigh to add towards that buuuuuut under the positives WTF was Infiniti thinking with that 7AT- This has to be the quirkiest AT i have ever driven in my life. Some days it wants to be smooth other days I have to literally MASH this thing to the floor to MOVE from a traffic light...
Does anyone else experience this with the 7AT it feels really heavy and delayed.

My Mazda was off the line throw you back quick...Ease up off the clutch foot on the pedal and Zoom zoom zoom...

I wish I would have gotten a 6 MT I am kicking myself for not getting MT...MY GOD i wish i had gotten a MT.

*The Body roll and handling, I thought that the IPL is supposed to be the Infiniti Performance line. The steering feels like I am driving a boat.

Part of the reason why I brought an IPL over a regular G37s was because I thought that they had made enhancements towards the suspension. That feeling where you are connected to the road, I don't get that connection with this Infiniti G37

----

Everything else on this car is perfect to me. It gets decent gas mileage for what it is. Way better than the Mazda, and I finally have a Working Radio lol. My Gf loves the drive she HATED the Mazda because she couldn't stand the road feel..

Again I am not knocking this car whatsoever, It's just unbelievable how Mazda got it right when it came to the driver, yet infiniti missed the mark. It is def a Luxury car first Sport last.....

Did you not test drive the car before you bought it?

Thanks for the review.

At least you can fix the handling issues you have pretty easy with sway and or coils.

the transmission you might need a tune to fix, I am going to get one soon to see If it will fix my 7at woes.

You should look into the ECU/transmission update thread. I own an IPL too and im planning on taking it to the dealer soon for the update.

First off, congrats on the buy. I just recently went through a similar ordeal when I purchased my infiniti g37. I had my first infiniti 2 years ago...a g35 coupe. LOVED it! Then, I got t-boned going to class. SO..i bought a black on black g37S coupe. LOVED IT EVEN MORE!! haha. THEN....I totaled it this past Halloween from hitting a ditch..and 2 mailboxes lol. SO...I found a white g37s convertible in Dallas at the sewell dealership online and I bought it. I never went to see it in person. Yes..i was sweating bullets but the car ended up being in mint condition. I started to have transmission issues and searched this forum for any posts and there were many of them saying to update the ECU. I brought it to my closest dealer and they updated it and ever since then...its been great.

The key is to really press the 7AT hard from a standstill a few times a day so it doesn't go into "luxury" ASC mode. This has helped mine a lot since I've started doing it.

Adaptive Shift Control - it's the learning algorithm the trans has that is designed to adapt to different driving styles (aggressive vs. non-aggressive).

Slap that sucker to the left into sport mode, Helps a little but will never replace a third pedal.

There's some apples to oranges comparisions going on here but maybe I can help. A lighter turbo'ed car like the Mazda will of course behave differently than a larger displacement naturally aspired 6 cyl. I can imagine the Mazda being a bit light on it's feet, but a G will pull over 9g on the skidpad. That's serious territory. Steering, of course, is a function of many factors, but one review called the G's steering "Porsche like". Not sure if that's true, but it's a compliment nevertheless. I wouldn't race a G on the track, but a G can be pretty scary coming on cam in third pulling out of a turn onto a highway. I have no trouble having fun in the car.

I owned a 05 G35 6MT, which I loved, and now an IPL 6MT. Turbos are fun, but give me the torque of a big motor anytime - and that's where the VQ delivers. Since mine is a 6MT I can't comment on your frustrations there. Just know that the early G35 clutch take-up was horrible, fixed to a large degree on the G37...but second gear is still, er, awkward.

As for for the suspension on the IPL, the spring rates are about 20% firmer than the G37S. That's all they did - the tires and everything else is the same. I like the ride very much. But again, overall vehicle weight plays a big part in how you are "connected to the road".

If it makes you feel any better, you are part of an exclusive club - there are only about 1,300 IPL's on the road in the US. And that's over a three year run.
