couple of days in my IPL now...my quick review/comparison
There's some apples to oranges comparisions going on here but maybe I can help. A lighter turbo'ed car like the Mazda will of course behave differently than a larger displacement naturally aspired 6 cyl. I can imagine the Mazda being a bit light on it's feet, but a G will pull over 9g on the skidpad. That's serious territory. Steering, of course, is a function of many factors, but one review called the G's steering "Porsche like". Not sure if that's true, but it's a compliment nevertheless. I wouldn't race a G on the track, but a G can be pretty scary coming on cam in third pulling out of a turn onto a highway. I have no trouble having fun in the car.
I owned a 05 G35 6MT, which I loved, and now an IPL 6MT. Turbos are fun, but give me the torque of a big motor anytime - and that's where the VQ delivers. Since mine is a 6MT I can't comment on your frustrations there. Just know that the early G35 clutch take-up was horrible, fixed to a large degree on the G37...but second gear is still, er, awkward.
As for for the suspension on the IPL, the spring rates are about 20% firmer than the G37S. That's all they did - the tires and everything else is the same. I like the ride very much. But again, overall vehicle weight plays a big part in how you are "connected to the road".
If it makes you feel any better, you are part of an exclusive club - there are only about 1,300 IPL's on the road in the US. And that's over a three year run.

Thank you for your insight......I am starting to love this car more and more since I have it and I'm stuck with it. it's a marriage now LOL
You should look into the ECU/transmission update thread. I own an IPL too and im planning on taking it to the dealer soon for the update.

I consider the G to be a GT car, as in Gran Turismo; a bit less blistering performance and a bit more comfort and drivability.
This is also why I think the AT is a good fit for the car.
Maybe it's not the right car for you, or maybe you will grow to appreciate it more...
I have always driven MTs , although I have had ATs as second vehicles.I test drove an AT G37and another one with the paddle shifts, I was having a hard time finding a MT. But when I finally test drove the IPL 6MT there was no looking back.
The suspension for me is just tight enough, its a good balance. Corners are a blast. And yes I am planning to take it on a track this summer. Overall, as I have mentioned it many times on this forum, the IPL is a well balanced car, its not a raw muscle car, its not a sporty sports car, but its a fun car, it lets you enjoy a spirited ride, have fun on corners, is responsive enough and has a lot of luxury stuff to offer including good looks and all that at a reasonable price. Now when people start comparing it to M3's, Porches and other cars which cost way more $s, then its hard to have a rational conversation.
But if I had to get an IPL AT, I would still do it, cause in my opinion there are not many cars out there that offer this much at this price level....Enjoy your car Byron!

In response to the weird feeling of the 7AT, did you end up trying what Aali176 said? These ECU's are smart and get used to driving style.
I have a 2013 IPL and honestly, at first I was wondering why it felt unresponsive at times compared to my brother's 2012 G37S sedan. Well...this was before I hit break-in mileage a few weeks ago. Since then, I have driven the car more aggressive, and it responds much faster than before. Since I am in LA, I often am driving in traffic or at slow speeds (pot holes everywhere), but when I do drive back home to OC, I get to drive faster and enjoy the car more. Here's what you can do. Before driving off the next time, press the start twice (dont start the car yet), and put the pedal to the floor for a minute (just an estimate). Basically, you are telling the comp that you are driving fast etc etc etc.
Off the line, while in S mode, I am slower than my buddy's 335iS, but when I am in 2nd gear, he stops pulling from me. At a roll (paddles) from 2nd, he is BARELY ahead of me...
And handling...have you taken it to a place where handling can be pushed hard? Did you purchase the car new, or did the previous owner beat the tires? I took my brothers sedan through mountain roads (SoCal) late at night and boy is it fun. Then I took my IPL...holy **** was it different and I can take all corners faster. Hell, when I get onto the freeway, I can do the full circle on-ramp loops with an exit speed of over 90, easy.
BTW, it was previous said that "one review called the G's steering "Porsche like". We have a 2013 Panamera S with most options (adjustable suspension etc etc), and my IPL steers extremely similar. And thats when the Pani is in Sport mode with Suspension in Sport+. The IPL definitely accelerates faster and corners just as hard, if not harder. Of course, I do like the adjustable suspension and the sound of the V8 tho (isnt as loud overall as the IPL, but engine sound-wise, yes. much deeper.)
Anyways, I am glad you are slowly liking the car more and more. And as for MPG...I was at 10.8 last time I filled up. Not much aggressive driving since its LA....

The transmission I understand, specially coming from a manual but the steering I can't really agree on. This car has really good steering and motor trend has called it "porsche like" and I can't imagine an AWD car having better steering.
FYI - the IPL doesn't come w/AWD. I agree with most everything being said here, especially the handling of the IPL. For those of you that didn't ask, the G35 coupe had IMO a nicer sound than the IPL. A bit louder which maybe Infiniti deliberately dialed back for the G37 price range but it was still sweet and I think more accurately spoke for the engine under the hood. The IPL is deeper, more V8 like, which it's not. The G35 came on cam lower in the revs than the IPL. I've not driven a G37 but I understand an IPL has a much flater torque band up to redline where it delivers the max HP. Not so in the G35. This is fun if you like to wind it out but unfortunately the IPL's engine doesn't make a very gratifying "let's go more sound" at the top. One thing that's a blast is to nail it in fourth (MT) at about 40 MPH and just hold it there...it just seems to pull increasingly harder as it comes into it's power band and, just like that, you're over 100. Just thought I'd throw that in there.

Byron,
For that extra bit of handling finesse, you should change your sway bars and only them at first. I would highly recommend the Hotchkiss brand setup. http://www.hotchkis.net/sport_sway_bar_set_08_370z_g37_g37s_g35.html
Did that for my G37S (which is really almost the same car) and I noticed an immediate response to steering inputs. Not only did the car corner almost completely flat, but it moved exactly where you pointed it. No hesitation, no dramatics, it just went where you wanted..., NOW. It installs very easily, great quality and is adjustable on the rear bar. I would recommend the middle setting to start. It also allows you, when you turn off traction control, to do power slides with greater ease and finesse. Best bang for the buck in my estimation. Under normal driving you wouldn't even know they're on the car. Then if you want even more control, you can change the springs, like to an Eibach setup which lowers it a little over an inch all around. The stance stays the same but just lower. Now with my stock G37S shocks the ride is not bad and great on the track. With the IPL's shocks it might be a little more harsh. The springs are progressive in nature so it's not all bad. The ultimate setup would be to change to a set of KW's V3 coil over shocks. But I would wait until you've put around 30-40K miles on the car before doing so. The KW's give you a great ride with a no-compromise handling when pushed. Good luck and enjoy your baby.

I have the Hotchks Sways and GT Spec Bracing with stock springs. The car really handles. I have a friend with the Lambo Gulargo and I can follow him closely on road corses in 60 and 45 degree curves we run between 60 and 90 mph and Im right with him in the G37s. His comment was 50K car vs his 240K in the corners is amazing.
