g35 sold.. g37 in the near future?

Whats up everyone
so just sold my g35 yesterday.. as much as I loved owning the car it had to be done. The little things were starting to drive me crazy and I had no intention of dumping anymore money in it (door locks, window motors, creeks/rattles, random SES lights, arbitrarily high insurance rates etc.). Dont get me wrong, I loved every minute of owning it, and built it from stock to the ground up but it just wasn't a practical daily for me.

Anyways, I was basically 99% set on a TL type-s for my next car but after seeing the prices of some of the g37 coupes out there, they look like pretty good buys. I did a good weeks worth of research on the TL-s before even deciding it was an option, I plan to do the same now with the g37, just wanted some of your guys opinions.

Im looking specifically for a 6mt coupe, will not settle for anything more or less. I found a good bit of info here:

https://www.myg37.com/forums/g37-coup...-are-they.html

one guy posted that apparently the 08-10s are reporting oil consumption issues???? I went through hell with the whole oil issue in my g35 and the last thing I want is to face the same problem..

Anyone care to share their experiences? Known issues I should watch out for? I'm most likely staying away from anything with over 60k miles

Thanks<!-- google_ad_section_end -->

The most common complaint I have seen here is about the clutch slave cylinder; do a search and you will see what I mean...

I had an 04 6MT coupe and can tell you that the differences between the two cars are huge.

The G35 coupes were great, but they had so many TSBs, recalls, and annoyance issues that drove me away. (Head units dying, oil consumption issues, faulty window motors, crap rear defrost action, noisy and overly expensive Brembo brakes... and more).

The G37 coupe is not perfect, but it improved on all of the things I mentioned earlier and more. I miss the sound of the exhaust on my G35, but I would never go back to a G35 coupe. G37 is a million times better. Also, not sure who talks about oil consumption on this specific platform- I have not heard of widespread issues with O.C. like the G35 had. There is little comparison between the two cars with regard to reliability.

Is there a particular year you'd recommend for the g37? I too have a g35 coupe, and have thought about getting something a little newer. I lucked out with my 05 though, only had to replace my driver window motor twice.

I went from a 06 6MT G35 coupe to an 08 6MT G37 coupe and the difference is pretty large. Overall the car feels much better built, the engine much stronger, and I've seen zero oil consumption so far. You will get a rattle here and there but it's much less frequent than the G35. Take your time and find a loaded G37 in good condition and you won't regret it.

The clutch slave cylinder is the only thing with questionable reliability. Mine is still fine after 6 months. Once you replace it with the heavy duty one, there's no problems at all.

BTW Stillen Gen 3 intakes easily made a bigger power difference than any bolt on I ever did to my G35.

If you can pony up the cash, go for 2011+ as it has the most up to date front fascia and there are a few additional creature comforts on the interior. (Touchscreen and nav are updated, streaming Bluetooth audio, and a couple of other things.) Really, the differences are not huge from 08-10 and 11+, so you can't go wrong with 6MT. If you are considering AT, most will tell you to stay away from 08 as it has the 5AT as opposed to 7AT, but I believe you are considering 6MT.

Maybe it is just me... but I feel like my 08 6MT is considerably easier to drive clutch wise than my 04.

some good info here..
well I think I may be pulling the trigger on an '08 6mt coupe I found an absolute steal on this week. The owner is in a rush to sell it and has close to 15k in mods including stillen intake/headers, ark exhaust, berk hfc, vossen wheels and more, all brand name quality parts. I've talked the guy down to $18,750, checked it out thsi weeknd and it seems solid.

Pulled a clean carfax/title, zero accidents etc. I'm calling Infiniti tomorrow morning to see if they can pull up any service records with the vin. As much as I dont want to buy a car that heavily modified, I cant pass it up at this price.

What do you guys think

Sounds like a great deal to me. The mods are mainly just bolt ons so its a little hard to mess it up. The only thing that would worry me is the tune. With the combo of intake and exhaust w/ hfc, you usually need a tune to make sure the air/fuel is what it is supposed to be.

I wouldn't buy a car that's modified, but that's just me. If you know your way around cars or have a good garage, you could take it there and make sure that everything is working in harmony, I suppose.

Not a bad deal still.

I couldn't agree more, this is literally the first "heavily modfied" car im purchasing. But the upside is they are all fairly simple mods and he's put me in contact with the shop and actual mechanic to do the work so he can vouch. Also the fact that they are all typically mods that I would have done myself somewhere down the line.

If it was something with heavy engine or suspension mods, I probably wouldnt even bother.
