but i wouldn't get married planning on divorcing VS when buying a car, resale value is a huge thing to take into consideration, unless ofc you buy a car you are planning on keeping for the rest of its existence.

Plus the next husband will NOT be paying you for the wife vs the new owner will pay you for the car BASED ON ITS MILEAGE AND CONDITION.

idk man sounds like alot of mileage. Like someone said, if it has an existing warranty that has good coverage up to 100k. That would more than likely be the deciding factor on this purchase (apart from condition / service history etc)

 

Nissan's VQ engine is decades old, and pretty bullet-proof. Various models have had their quirks, but the VQ37HR in that IPL already had 3 model years of real world, high volume usage between the G and the M. Granted, the IPL is tweaked for an additional 18 hp, but not in any significant, mechanical nature. It's a very solid engine.

As long as the car was maintained and not abused, 60K miles is nothing. Particularly when those are mostly highway miles, as you can assume based on it being such a recent model year.

All that being said, the VQ is getting old, it's a noisy engine, it gets really poor gas mileage, blah blah blah. The IPL is a relatively heavy car, with far more image than actual sportscar behavior. In fact, I'd liken it more to a Japanese Musclecar than a Sportscar, if you follow where I'm going with that.

Personally, I think the IPL is over-styled and underpowered for a specialty "performance" division of INFINITI. While at the same time, I respect the uniqueness of it all. There are pros & cons in every car, I suppose.

 

I'd get it for 25k for sure. Sweet sexy car

Is it not possible to get an extended warranty or something. The other thing is out of the 3 reviews I found on Google for the used car dealer, all had something negative to say about the dealer including one taking him to court. I was gonna go and test drive it but then opted not to. Instead I went found another used car dealer who basically deals in infiniti's and also does full service for infiniti. I test drove 2008 G37 auto with paddle shifts had 60K miles asking $22+ for it. Nice car I enjoyed the test drive, can only imagine how much fun a manual would be.

 

That's a little expensive tbh. I'm living in the Bay Area which means things are really spicy here. But I got my 08 G37s, full option except tech package, 48.5k miles at 21.5k

 

Considering the fact that yes its a car and needs to be driven, 25k a year is not just miles, there could be a lot of abuse and wear. Look at the interior, its usually a good indicator if the person generally cared about the car.

 

Ok I test drove the 2011 Malbec Black IPL with 65K miles today, OTD $27.5K including taxes, doc fees, registration. I took it out twice for a test drive. It does drive well, I really pushed it on the second test and it responded well. The suspension was much tighter than the automatic I test drove last week. The oil change and maintenance light came on, plus the master alert light (I've heard the master light comes on with other lights and also when gas is low). The interior of the car was overall clean but the lower bottom of the back rest of the driver's seat had a rip, the exterior was clear of any dings, bruises etc but the rims had scrapes and scarring on the edges, break rotors had rust on them. And I did feel that the brakes need changing, I stressed on that. Wheel alignmnet felt okay.

The dealer used to be new car dealership for chevy, chyrsler but then they added used cars and now thats all they do. Mostly high end cars, I saw many BMWs, Audis, a nice Nissan GTR. They also have a Full autobody shop and a full service mechanic and tire shop, i was given a tour. The sales guy was pretty cool didn't really pressure me, also met the owner his thing was we buy quality used cars, price them aggressively to sell and focus on volume.

They assured me that they have a upholstery guy who can fix the rip in the seat, all their cars go through oil change and 130 point inspection and maintenance check before handing them over, if they have to change anything they will and they give a 60 day guarantee. I asked them about fixing the scarring on the rims and was told they have to check with their body shop if anything can be done to fix that. They will be doing an inspection on Monday and will let me know then.

According to the sales guy it was a company lease and driven by a pharmaceutical rep. car fax shows clean title but no maintenance history is avilable on car fax.

 

I bought a 2011 g37s with 65k

I don;t regret it at all. It drives awesome its a nissan it can last till 200k easy.

 

Seems like whoever leased the car was not a car guy and didn't baby the thing. That said, if the dealer makes the adjustments and you're happy with the price, go for it.

 

I live in MD and traded my 2008 BMW 535i for a 2010 G37S 7AT. The Infiniti had 27,000 miles on it clean interior with no navi but had back up cam and parking sensors in the rear and clean exterior other then 2 wheels that were scuffed up a bit. They gave me 18,000 for my BMW and wanted 29,000 for the G, I spent 10 hours at the dealership negotiating in till the sales manger wrote in red pen the firm price I had to pay, 27.000 for everything, dealer process and tags with registration, I payed taxes on the difference since I had a trade. So total I payed 9,000 grand plus tax. Dealer also repaired the two wheels. Very happy with my car and the deal that I received especially after sitting there for 10 hours drinking free Infiniti coffee lol, good luck with your car hunt and just make sure the deal you get will suit you, buyers remorse is no fun.

 

Let's see what happens tomorrow, after they do the inspection. I will keep you guys updated, everyone here has been so helpful with sound advice. Thanks.

 

I have a 2011 IPL that has 26k on the clock Malbec Black/Red.

So here is my advice, do not jump on a car with 65k on the clock. As has been stated earlier, the warranty is toast, a new warranty will cost north of $3 grand.

You should have an Infiniti dealer service department run the VIN for what work has/has not been done. They have access to a national database.

Get the car inspected at an independent shop (an Infiniti dealer may be your best bet). Be certain that all recalls have been attended to, make sure that all of the software in the car (Navi, engine management) has been updated. The inspection may cost $300 but will be money well spent. If the seller will not allow an independent inspection, RUN the other way. I have not even mentioned brakes, tires or the timing belt replacement, keep all of this in mind.

^ good advice. except for the timing belt replacement bit. our cars do not have timing belts. we have timing chains which are essentially non-service, at least in most cases. timing chains last a looong time unless there is a defect.

 

So what's the IPL got that gives it that extra 18 hp..?
