That is a senseless thing to say... Please stop perpetuating your imaginary hate war between brands. A car is a car is a car. It could have very well been another Infiniti G37 owner for all you know.

The OP said that it happened to 10 cars or so in his development. It was probably some random kid or mentally disturbed person that did it for no reason.

OP, better contact insurance and let them handle it from there. Sorry for your loss, but you will come out better with new paint from this.

Sad to see...love that colour too.

How would he prove to insurance that it was a random person and not him? If this was an isolated situation (i.e. didn't happen to 10 other cars) then how could he prove it was a random person....seems like a tough sell and insurance companies (from my experience at least), if they see an out they will most likely take it.

I was going to suggest the same. Take it to a quality body shop and see if they can refinish it by simply wet sanding it out, or wet sanding it and respraying the clear coat only in the damaged areas without having to paint the entire panels. I'm not a paint and body man but there are a few on the forum and perhaps they could advise you better than I can as to whether or not that's feasible.

When people key cars, is the damage usually to the clear coat? I thought keying got through that and into the actual color. I have never keyed someone's car, but I would think that someone would bear down.

That's not how it works. He doesn't have to prove he didn't do it. If I wrap my car around a tree, insurance is going to pay me. I'm the one who did it. If it gets stolen, I get paid. I don't have to prove I didn't steal it or have it stolen. All he will probably do is get a police report to give them and pay his deductible.

^^Depends how deeply they keyed it. In other countries, punishment for this is probably broken or severed fingers. Hmm...

I had my last car keyed from the headlight lense ..down the side..onto the taillight lens. Filed a police report, insurance paid for a full side repaint, buffed my headlight and replaced taillight. I think I paid a small deduct, but the entire amount was def. not in my pocket...in the upwards of $2k+

I actually had it done by 180 custom when they did the headlights. So I probably can't be too much help. Also, not sure if lapis blue is the same as athens blue.

Also, thanks for the ideas and thoughts, I am working through insurance now, not sure exactly where I am going to take it for an estimate, but I imagine the damage will exceed my 1k deductible, and Progressive has already stated that it will get marked as not at fault. Now it's just about finding the time to get it looked at, my company was just bought out this week so I've been crazy busy.

As a G37 owner and an insurance adjuster, this should be covered under your comprehensive deductible. Ill be surprised if your deductible is 1k? if so, your monthly premiums must be really low.

Random vandalism is a cowardly, pointless thing, and I feel for you, OP. I hope the repair is better than satisfactory. Good luck. You're coupe is beautiful.

On another note... what's wrong with this picture?

It'll be a while before I buy myself anything nice again.
