IPL owners..?
I remember reading Car & Driver's first review of this variant and they seemed underwhelmed by it.
Why did you choose yours and how do you like it?

I switched from my 2009 G37S to a new 2011 IPL about a month ago and I couldn't be happier. I think that the question as to whether it was/is a worth while upgrade really comes down to an individual's expectations. I really liked the sport wheels on the 2009 but am in love with the IPL wheels. I have no plans to do any aftermarket work so the tweaked exhaust, suspension, steering and body kit were exactly what I was looking for. Someone looking for a significant boost in hp will invariably be disappointed and if you planning to go aftermarket then you would probably be best off sticking with a Sport. Would I pay $50k for an IPL, no, but $38k for a brand new 2011 IPL was a good deal to me and well worth the money.

The IPL is specifically supposed to appeal to people who want a car that is tuned from the factory with all sorts of different new bits that are covered under warranty. If that is what you are looking for, and you do not plan on modifying it, then it may be a good idea to get it. The price is not actually that much greater than a fully loaded G37 Sport model. Factor in the body kit and the IPL wheels that are being sold separately by dealers for absurd prices, and you may consider yourself ahead of the game. In addition, there is a slight element of "exclusivity" (it is the top-of-the-line G37, after all).
That said, I cannot comprehend why there are people who buy the IPL and then replace all the parts with aftermarket parts. But I have already mentioned that before.

It's all about the BADGE... duh! Haha j/k. Like Superteeth said, if you add up the cost of the parts that separate the IPL from a fully loaded sport model, then it's a pretty good package. I like the upgrades the IPL has over the sport, and those upgrades are factory-installed and warranted, so for me it just made sense to get the IPL. Sure, you could add some of those upgrades to the sport model, but it just wouldn't be the same, and at the end of the day you might end up spending the same, if not more.

I agree with you all. I spent 56 on my car. Very sore, but at least i got pretty much what i wanted in a car. Spoiler, body kit, POWER, rims. a 37 s w/out all the features wouldve cost me 48 out the door. Kind of disappointed that the music box was taken out of the cars.

I've just bought my IPL on Monday. Couldn't be happier. I was deciding between the two but when I went to the dealership I felt like it was a night and day difference. Not much difference in hp but I couldn't complain. Amazing car. Then again it all comes down to how much money you're willing to spend and if it's worth it to you. All it took for me to decide was a trip to the dealership and looking at them side by side.

I bought my 13 G37S and within a couple months changed to the aero kit and ipl exhaust, it looks like a completely different car, even though i really did like the new G37S front bumper...I would say if you not planning on changing the wheels do the IPL, if you are planning on changing the wheels you might want to just upgrade to the factory aero kit and some aftermarket wheels.

C&D did a recent and very brief comparison of the IPL and a slew of other "hot" cars ranging from Mustangs to Mercedes AMG. I'd say the IPL was right in the middle of the pack price wise and it was the only car not more expensive than its base model because there really are no options on the fully loaded IPL. Not surprisingly, readers particpating choose the MB which cost a clean $25 more than the IPL. Most of the G37 forums argue about the IPL versus the regular G37, but few ever compare it to the likes of BMW, Audi, and others. In this arena the car is a steal. A comparably equipped Audi S5 costs $15 more. Also, if you want exclusivity, get an IPL. I have a 2013 6mt IPL in graphite shadow and I asked Infiniti Corporate how many have been made. Their answer, as of this past April, is just over 500 TOTAL, and 114 identical to my car. Sure it cost 50k, but it's loaded, and cheap to buy, AND OWN, compared to the test. The rareness factor is free.
