Hey All,

I bought a used 09 G Coupe 6MT back in October. It still has warranty but will be ending really soon. I was wondering if you guys think it would be a good idea to invest in extended warranty.

The car only has 14 k mileage. I have already modded the headlights and will likely continue modding. The only thing is I'm worried about the interior electronics not functioning correctly and not knowing where to fix them. For those who did not purchase extended warranty, how have you been holding up. Please note that I'm also not that car savvy.

I bought a 08 6mt coupe about 6 months ago with 32k, I bought a 3 year warranty.got the car the check engine light came on, so they replaced the gas cap.
It came back on a few days later, I have to go back to the dealer some day to get it fixed. It could be an expensive repair so I'm kinda glad I bought the warranty.

The check engine light is a very common problem and sometimes expensive to fix, like the O2 sensor, so the warranty might not be a bad idea.

 

i canceled my extended waranty,

our cars are pretty reliable and if you plan on leaving it stock you wont have any issues,

also parts are relativly in expensive and easy to repair unlike a european car

 

Thanks for the help, guys. Any ballpark ranges for the price of the extended warranties? Just so I don't get ripped off. I had a Benz C class before and had to consistently bring it to the dealership every 3 weeks because electronics were alwasy malfunctioning so I'm a bit paranoid lol.

 

My warranty is about to expire. I was quoted something around $18xx for 24 months.

I trust Japanese reliability enough to take a chance. Everything should be fine. If it does go wrong, it won't cost more than $1800.

 

You can do a search on extended warranties. There have been pro and con statements made on whether one should or not.

As it has been stated, the extended warranty is an insurance program and a gamble. They are betting nothing goes wrong and you are hedging something does.

Yes, Infiniti does have a higher quality product than many other manufacturers, but the car does have problems. Again you can do searches.

Some people stated just put the money aside for just in case, but you will not be getting interest on this as you would have in the “old” days. Are you disciplined enough to not touch those funds?

Wrenching costs are around $100 per hour, and definitely will go up in the years to come. There are many electronic items which cost hundreds a pop.

You ride has low mileage and probably was kept up well. That is a plus for you. How long do you plan on keeping the car and how many miles are you going to put on it for wear and tear?

I got the extended warranty, mainly for peace of mind. I already have had the Nav screen, power seat control module, and wiper switch all go bad. Yes, those were covered under the factory warranty, but if I was outside of the warranty, I would have had to shell out a few bucks. I have had other ticky-tack items which do not replicate themselves for the service tech, but something is funky.

Another reason I got the extended warranty is because I got burned bad on my previous ride (non-Infiniti). I thought about getting but I did not. My wife had an extended warranty on her previous car, also non-Infiniti, and it paid off for her, mostly on the electronic modules.

There are different durations and deductible options out there, which obviously affect the cost. Get the cost on the policies and then call a dealer and get estimates on what it would cost to fix some of the common failure items which people have had.

If you do get a warranty, go with a reputable company and check with your dealer if they would honor it. Also,check on what is covered and what is not. Per some feedback, Infiniti of Scottsdale has some of the better pricing around. Plus, depending on where you live, you may or may not have to pay sales tax on the policy.

I bought a certified pre-owned 09 a while back. Is it the same coverage as the extended warranty you have to purchase?

I believe mine is up to 60k miles or 4 years

Thanks for your detailed response. I think that's the warranty plan that I was looking for all along. I live in New York and it seems like this plan is valid at all Infiniti dealerships. I went ahead and requested a quote for the warranty. Hopefully, the price won't be too crazy and by that I mean around 2,000. Or is that wishful thinking.

Whatever you do, do not get a third-party insurance plan. I've heard nothing but horror stories about them. If you're going to get one, get it through Infiniti.

 

The infiniti warranty is called Elite Care (don't confuse this with their maintenance product). I paid around $1100 or $1200 at time of purchase for 4 additional years, upto 100K miles, and $100 deductible. In the case of the 6mt, I at least expect the CSC to fail. We'll see how well the trans it self holds up, and possible some electronics as it gets older. I fully plan on keeping the car for at least that long too. Last car I kept for 15 years.

 

I also plan on keeping this car for a long time. It's practically a new car and I only drive it during the weekends. So basically for the elite plan, every time you visit you have to pay 100 bucks? I mean, I guess it's not that bad considering if they do replace certain parts for you and that I would not have to take it in there every 3 weeks.

I could be wrong but I don't think the CSC is covered right? Another thing of concern is the seats. I've read on these forums that some people were fortunate enough to have them replaced for the cracking leather issues. I'm also assuming they will update the software when I bring the car in.

The CSC is NOT covered under the factory powertrain warranty (6yr/70K), but is covered in the extended warranty. Look up code 30620 in the pdf above. They call it the Clutch Operating Cylinder. Why the CSC is not covered under powertrain is beyond me. It's part of the trans, it's not a wear/maintainable part, yet it fails often. I can see the friction disc not being covered under any warranty (albeit, subaru does include the friction disc in their standard bumper-bumper warranty).

It's $100 per visit, yes. But that visit can include a number of unrelated repairs. If you have cracking seats, that's best be taken care of before the 4yr warranty runs out.

The deductible is per visit, not per item…so if you come in and they fix a few things, you only pay $100 or $50, if you ever have a reoccurring problem with any item repaired, you do not pay the deductible again.
