Coming from an 8th gen accord sedan, i'm surprised to see that the coupe is ~3800lbs, even heavier than the sedan. if i remember correctly the accord sedan is only ~3200lbs. is it from the engine? stronger build materials?

From what ive seen the G37s coupe weighs in at 3668lbs, still heavy none the less. You gotta remember though the G37 has a much bigger motor and far more luxury over the Accord. With diff seats, no sound deadening and different stereo the G would shave quite a bit. But I also think just the metal used to make the chassis and body is heavier, hopefully of a better kind than older japs.

Because its not intended to be lightweight.

Thats the prefect answer. Being a bit heavier helps it ride better. I don't mind the weight, but then again I didn't buy it to be a fast sports car.

Because it's a Luxury Sports coupe.

Note that the word luxury comes first. And luxury and lightweight does not go hand in hand.

They are heavy because they are very strong and well built cars...

You ever see a G37 in an accident? Yeah just about everyone comes out alive

You ever see an Evo or an STi in an accident? Or how about a Dodge SRT-4?

Yeah just about everyone comes out dead or paralyzed.

These cars are heavy and solid for a reason.

What we need is a little more power like the BMW M3 414 hp
3,704 lbs that's a 2010 spec I think. I hope this G refresh is going to much better. I am not too impress with the IPL we just need more for the buck.

Accord has no rear-wheel differential, that thing is very heavy lol, heavier engine, heavier seats, wider body, luxury equipment that everything adds up xD

You can shave some weight off by going carbon fiber fenders, trunk and hood.

So what if the Accord is heavier. Sure it would be nice if the G could meet the same safety and luxury specs while weighing 3000 lbs. But what performance gain does the Accord have over the G- with it's lighter weight- in it's stock form?
I have a bycycle that's lighter than the G. Doesn't mean it does anything better as a result.

They are heavy because they sit on a heavy FM platform which is even used for Nissan's SUV's. Add in Sound deadening, super heavy luxurious seats, having a rear seat...etc etc. It adds up. Lighten the load and begin to remove the luxury and it still comes down to the cars frame just being heavy, which is why as Tazicon pointed out, even the 370z which is the lightweight sporty option to our car is still fairly heavy for a car its size.
