My Latest Mod!

So I have a 2008 G37S, but have always liked the console on the 2010's and newer. I picked up a used one off eBay for $299 all in, and modified it to accept the 2008 heated seat switches, the older style iPod port etc...it came out pretty well, I think! Just waiting on one trim piece to come in to finish it (if anyone has one in good condition, I'll pay full retail for it).

I'll post a "how I did it" if anyone is interested.

Cheers,

- hywel

Thanks! I took plenty of pictures of the work I did, just need to organize it all. It really wasn't too tough.

The only other parts that I needed are the rear console bracket (I removed the old one and used zip ties that worked surprisingly well - I actually cancelled the one I had on order) and the front finisher panel which is currently on backorder.

Very nice, is the cup holder better than the "always breaking" flip down part in the 08 model?

Looks good man! I'm wondering if a newer 6MT console will fit in an 08??

I've no idea...the only way to know for sure is to try it. For me $299 was a relatively small investment to try it out and I got lucky as everything was included (except for that darned trim piece).

I'll try to do the quick write up on this at the weekend, but the only negatives that come to mind for me are:

1) needing to rewire the "front" 12v power outlet
So in the old console, there's a little light in the ashtray and the outlet. The connector was different in there because of that, but it's easy enough to change, I just didn't bother as I never use that one.

2) the audio/video output cord not being long enough
So on the video and audio ports (the analog ones) the wire to the back of the unit isn't long enough with the new higher placement. If thats something you use, then this isn't the mod for you. There are certainly ways around this, but again it's not something that bothered me enough to address.

3) The finish on the 2010 metal vs the 2008 is slightly different. I was going to cover with CF or Dynoc anyway, but even before doing that, I don't think it's a big deal at all...

Thanks for all the complements! Now if only that darned trim panel would show up....
