General Impression on a X model
General Impression on a X model
For all you "X" owners, what are your general thoughts on the AWD vs the RWD.
Sorry you got it?
The extra weight and cost worth the hit on performance?
Is it a good AWD system in general?
Anything else you care to offer in regards to Infinitis AWD "X" system.

Only thing I would change is a manual X, My X Coupe makes very good power, Same as a RWD car. The AWD system is not "Full time" you are RWD till the rears slip the some power is added to the fronts. I love my X coupe.
I want and need an AWD vehicle, for peace of mind and safety.
I have been driving AWD sport coupes for 19 years. I have only got stuck once, and that was trying to go up my sloped driveway after a huge snow storm. <O

I also had a rear driver as a summer car for a while, and it did not take much to lose traction from a start when the roads were wet. <O

This depends. If I were still up North I would definitely buy a X but I live in the south where it hardly snows and if it does snow I never drive because people here in TX do not know how to drive in snow or ice.
As or performance the X will get a jump of the line vs the RWD. Already tested against a X at the track but on a roll it seems the RWD gets more of a kick than the X (tested too with a buddy with a X).
Also, like swisscheese said the mods for the X is very limited compared to the RWD.

Thanks all .... not looking to mod, keeping my G but in the market for a new M. I was thinking hybrid first but basically doing some simple math, the extra $$ for the hybrid vs the gas savings would even out in about 7-8 years. Plus the hybrids they are not dealing on at all, so I'm thinking M37X now, was just wondering about the X AWD in general. You all sold me :-)

you sure about that. LOL I have every mod you can get for the RWD on my X? Minsu HFC( But they make them) I will just NEVER buy them.. They make the same stuff for both,
OH No coilovers for me either but they make them.
Well honestly for me the no manual X made my mind up for me, like cmon its a luxury SPORTS COUPE, where is the fun in the flappy panels.
If manual isnt a deal breaker for you and you like the peace of mine buy the X, performance is pretty close to negligible. Looks aren't comprimised if you get a drop (wheel gap is MASSIVE on G37xS so get one quick if you go that route!)

The only downside as others have said is you're stuck with an automatic. That said I absolutely love it, especially when pushing it hard enough coming out of a turn to get the AWD to kick in. That and it's held it's own fairly well in the winter, should do even better when I get a set of actual winter tires for the old wheels.
I appreciate everyone's comments on the AWD, I live in MD and we can get nasty weather. We have an Xterra for heading to the mountains to ski, etc but sounds like the AWD will be perfect if/when getting caught in inclement weather.
Definitely consider an xS - The all-wheel drive with the sport package. I previously had a 2009 x Coupe and recently got a 2012 xS Coupe. I love the sport seats, 19-inch rims, the great looking front bumper, more pronounced rocker panels, sport brakes, tighter steering and firmer sport suspension. It's the best of both worlds!
