Why not just lease a new 335 coupe? Backseat, not as soft as the G, more luxury than the Z & a warranty.

if you do the above, you could FI the G and get a few other little things. i think you'd be happy.
You wouldn't buy a non-certified used BMW because of the costs but you would boost your G? The costs associated with FI on the G will far surpass regular maintenance on a used BMW... That aside, the OP has said that he does not want to modify the next car.

tuff to say , What has not been already said, But the truth lies in what you accually want. Yes the M3 is fast and responsive but the cost is just that . Thats why BMW's warrenties cover everything for 5 years because everything cost so damn much,, The G is not as soft as you think the power band is just completly different. I'm not saying a G with beat the M3 but just not as soft as you think,. I was in a similar boat before I got mine, Was looking at M5's, wanted a 4 door. But could not find one for the $$ I wanted that did not have a lot of miles. I really think you need to keep looking or drive the G again an try reving a little higher and feeling the power band,, I LOVE the M's but so much damn $$ in maintenence.

Use the 40k on a down payment and get a new m3. I'm pretty sure you can afford monthly payments. Stunting and problem solved

I used to own a modded 350z as well, and was also looking for a used m3, almost bought one with low mileage around 55k, but didn't work out due to the dealer wants 58k. So the next day I saw a gorgeous g37 coupe, then I realized its the car I want all along! It has enough hp, rwd, 6mt or 7at (I picked 7at due to wife might drive one day), and most of all, a back seat! It's like an upgraded Z, with every luxury items you want.. It saved me some money from buying M3, so I can still do basic bolt ons. I think if you want to feel more sportier, you should pickup the 6mt..

If you don't need backseats, I would get 370z..

Infiniti will install a stillen SC package WITH tune and warranty it. Infiniti dealership near me just did one a while ago.

So ya....I would imagine it would actually cost less if it was done this way.

good luck!!!!!!!!
totally agree! its like 8k + labor for a twin turbo or a supercharger setup and i doubt you would have a problem with any softness after that... you could also just get an uprev or similar for under a grand if you just want a little more throttle response.

and for me... cup holders is what deterred me from getting a 3 series... you literally cant put anything in them and they like pop out of the dash...

I understand what you're saying. That is, indeed, a nice option with Stillen/Infiniti dealerships. I guess I am not nearly as optimistic as you are about the reliability. That initial $9,000 investment for the supercharger is not the end of it. There are many costs associated with forced induction on a VQ. That's all...

I see your point. And I would agree. I'm just wondering, as service/warranty work, ie problems associated with the SC that arise how much out of pocket money would be spent...if any due to the warranty.

Wow, a lot of great responses. I knew I came here for a reason. Thank you for all of the 'modding' suggestions but i'm not sure I want to do that. My TOTAL budget is $40k - $45k and I will be making a down payment for about half. The rest will be paid off so I don't have the extra money for mods. I imagine sway bars and suspension would help the 'softness' but then the $ needed starts piling up.

I actually have a very similar thread going on 6speedonline and while they are not NEARLY as responsive one individual did tell me that the maintenance for the BMW is really not that bad so maybe i'm focusing on the worst case scenario there. The BMW dealer is trying to get me to lease a new one and maybe that is why they are telling me about the high repair and maintenance costs.

Thanks for all the suggestions thusfar...

hey was kinda joking with my post earlier, the M3 is a fantastic car if..... you can afford it. ultimately it just boils down to your income and if you can afford it. if you have enough self control to stash away an emergency fund for repairs to the M3, then by all means get it. if you think that it will be hard to keep an emergency fund around for it then get the G or another comparable car.

Well could always go the G and FI "IF" you have a dealer like mine, they installed my kit and kept my3/36,000 mile, and my 5-60,000 mile warrenty, They even ordered me extra SC fluid and just had my first change(2500 miles) done for free,.
