Scheduled maintenance shock!!

Whoops, just posted this question in the wrong thread

Just leased my 2011 G37XS coupe a few months back here in Canada and called to get her in for the first service at the dealership, actually I'm a bit late and its for the 6 month (12,000km) service. Was told I need to do the Preferred and Schedule 1 package....sounds good, until they quoted me $1100! Seems outrageous. Is this really this cost for the 6 month service??

Isn't your 6 month service just a regular oil change? What was the breakdown of the 1.1K? Oil and filter change should be like $60.

Okay, simple lesson here....... Never, ever go into a dealer and ask for the "7,500 or 15,000 or 30,000 mile wallet extraction". Always request your services a al carte based upon what's in the vehicle's recommended maintenance schedule. The only scheduled serivces needed on our vehicles are:
  • Oil/filter changes and inspect all fluids at 3,750 or 7,500 miles (depending on whether you choose to follow schedule 1 or 2)
  • Air filter changes at 24 mos or 30,000 miles
  • Cabin filter changes annually
  • Coolant changes at 4 yrs or 60,000 miles for the first time and every 2 yrs or 30,000 miles thereafter
  • Spark plugs at 105,000 miles
  • Tires, belts, hoses, brakes, wiper blades and battery as they wear out

For those of us with the 7 AT, there is no recommendation for fluid changes under either schedule 1 or 2 (there isn't even a dipstick to check the fluid level)

"Premium" service schedule is just a way to waste money.

If you track, tow a trailer, or off-road........then you're going to have to up the ante.

Hope this helps.

$1100 is a *bit* excessive especially when all the services that LakeBlueG listed can be done in the comfort of your own garage and at the cost of parts and supplies.

When you read the owner's manual it will show you which periodic maintenance schedule you should follow that pertains to your particular driving style.
Most owners fall under the normal driving maintenance. The dealerships want owners to believe that they all fall under the severe schedule so they can maximize their profits.
The preferred is for real suckers.
The key word when determining which of the 2 schedules your car usage falls under is "PRIMARILY"
For example:
If you "PRIMARILY operate your vehicle under one or more of the conditions listed under the severe maintenance schedule, then you should use the severe schedule.
Almost all owner's will occasionally drive under one or more of the severe conditions. but if they don't primarily drive under these conditions there is no reason to follow the severe schedule.

IIRC those are @ 30K miles, and both are easily done in one's garage. The diff has a drain and fill plug, so no reason to pull the whole cover off.

Same for the trans. It's filled just like the diff is. Once it overflows, it's full.

In fact, I believe the spec for the trans oil is 75w90 gear lube too.

Infiniti picks up the tab for the first oil change, always!!

You did mean to say 12000 kilometers right?
Your still good for the standard mileage schedule 2 oil change @ 7500 miles.
