Quick question about the defroster.

Does it automatically turn off by itself or you have to manually have to push it again for it to shut off.

In other words, when you turn it on to use it will it stay on forever or will it turn off in a few minutes automatically?

The rear defroster****

It automatically shuts off. Seems to stay on longer than other cars I had though.

Yeah, it's weird at times. Sometimes it never shuts off even driving 20 minutes.. sometime it turns off at around 3 minutes.

I never understood why the rears turned off on their own. Anybody know?

My first guess would be because it's a wire attached to (within?) the glass and that there's concern that a) the continued heating of the wire would separate it from the glass and/or b) the continued heating of the wire would cause bubbling of any tint that might be on the window. But those really are just complete guesses.

First point is reasonable. Second not so sure. That'd mean Infiniti expects all their owners to tint their windows.

It's a convenience feature, there's either 1. A temperature sensor that turns it off once the ice is melted, or 2. when the ice is gone and the wires start heating up, the resistance increases and it shuts off (like tripping a breaker.) There's no set time limit.
