Shop Fees?

Are environmental/shop fees a "legit" charge when getting fluids/filters replaced at the dealership?

Depends on the state. In PA, it is illegal to have a "shop fee". You must show actual charges for each item. This doesnt stop alot of places from doing it. I personally think its a resonable charge considering the costs in shop supplies. Not sure what other states allow. I am a G.M. of a franchise dealership in PA and consider myself a credible source.

I would think so. They have to get rid of the fluid drained. They can charge you for that. Just like bald tires you leave behind at a tire shop.

They call them shop fees, used to be those costs were in your service price.. not in addition to them.

Thanks to everyone for their input. I've seen those charges when getting my oil or tires changed but never for other fluids...I guess it makes sense although I think it would be best if these costs were built into the price. Anyways thanks again

Enviornmental fees would relate to the disposal of the fluids or w/e is replaced.
