Tint Removal....

So getting my windows darker, probably around 20-30% next Wednesday and the shop wanted to charge me $100 to remove the original tint...so i said F that and decided to do it myself...well F that idea. Used a steamer that my mom uses for her clothes and that definitely helped however, the Glue left on the window...WHAT A BITCHHHHH!!!!!! to remove!

Any really good suggestions to remove the glue? Goo Gone helped but still was a pain....

Whatever mixture people use for putting on overlays is what you need here. Some kind of soap and water mixture, and a razor blade. Local tint shop pulled the same crap on me, i took it off with their soap mixture...did take a while but saved 100 bucks

this whole razor blade idea, can you scratch the window (obviously i know you have to keep the blade tilted...)

Just spray the soap and water on the window, dont be skimpy with it. Tilt the razor blade like you said and you will be able to slide that glue right off. Razor blade really helps in the corners especially near the tweeter where the glue tends to clump up.Should be good to go...just don't let the window get too dry and try to slide the razor across

My tint shop charged me $20 to remove the front tints due to a ticket.
With the condition they retint after.

you will be fine using a razor blade as long as its slightly angled. you CANNOT use it on the rear window though due to the defroster lines, thats where you use the steamer.

Haha no really, Thats what I used to get rid of a few of my customers that got tickets, just use a little gas on a rag and scrub, It comes off quick, then after use rubbing alcohol to clean the window. Just dont rub your paint with it, that will eat the clear coat.

I had to do this once on a passat, front two only and it was a pita, I used 3m adhesive remover. IF I had to do the whole car now, I'd pay to have it done. The op most certainly can negotiate a better price as well, especially if he's getting another tint job

Use Goof off or WD-40. Both will get the glue off.

I use to work at a stereo/tint shop. Water and dishwashing soap mixture to take off the glue along with a razor blade. For the rear window, use the water and dishwashing soap method but use a rough dishwashing scrub pad (not the metal ones).
