IPL G coupe

Hey people, is this true about this new IPL G coupe?
348hp, 276lb? if it is, big deal!

I don't get it,
it just sounds like what a 2012 or 2013 g37 should have at the least. You have a new performance division and that’s the best you can do? I think infiniti needs to look at what the letters M, AMG and V,mean. I have a 2008 G37 coupe, great car, but this IPL G coupe is an embarrasement, if true.

Hey Infiniti, ever hear about Nissan GTR? I'm sure they could lend you their engine, that would be a real IPL G Coupe !!

The general consensus is that we all agree...but its just the first one...the first is always the worst...lets see how they grow. I'm kinda glad it sucks...If it didn't - it would have "Belittled" my G!

It a much smarter move for them to start out slowly and and build their audience. They don't have the money to blow on an M3 killer that almost no one would buy.

Anyway, there's a sticky thread about this at the top of the page so in before lock.

have you also looked at the price tag jump from an AMG car vs a top line modeled non-AMG car?

Exactly. If Infiniti did build a AMG/M type vehicle, how many people would pay $65,000+ for it?

yea, you may be right, but nissan does have a great car in the GTR, and if Lexus can put out the IS F, then infiniti can do as good if not better. They're not like hyundai just starting out, they have the experience and expertise. Yea it's gona be more then your standard G37s, but hey you know the saying, if you build it, they will come. Otherwise don't call it an IPL. I'm sure you can get a few aftermarket parts and get just about the same performane as this IPL G. don't you think?

The GTR is almost a brand unto itself like Corvette. They know it won't have problems selling. Infiniti doesn't have the same reputation. People are already complaining that the new M is too expensive even though is thousands less than the new 5 Series, offers more HP, and has almost as many features.

As for the cost of the IPL Coupe, you could spend the same amount after market and get the tune, wheels, shocks, springs, and body kit but with the IPL you're getting it from the factory with a full factory warranty.

They know a lot of people already do the same upgrades to their cars so they're offering an easier way to do it.

very valid points. besides, like many others have said, this is only the launch of a brand new line. we can almost be certain that in the ensuing years IPL can only grow bigger and stronger

Oh yeah, I absolutely agree. I'm looking forward to see what they do with the G sedan, G convertible, M sedan, and maybe the FX.

giving a car a body kit and some red seats doesn't justify calling it an "IPL"

you could have just made an anniversary edition g37 and be done with it or made a performance package with all those things.

nobody will buy this car because you can just get a g37S and save the $$$ since there is virtually no performance gains and use that $$$ to mod the car yourself.

there is also nothing really nice about the new M. it's bloated and has the same jerky, harsh performance as the G but the G is more forgiving since it's a sports coupe. the 5 series is exceptionally smooth and refined and the M is not on the level. the M just looks and feels like the new maxima. they have no right charging as much as the 5 series or anywhere close if they expect to succeed.

the M should be reduced to a base price of $40k if they plan to ever compete with bmw. the only reason the G competes with BMW is because it's priced right. g37 is priced between the 328i and 335i but is closer to performance to the 335i and more equipped. that is why the G is so successful.

the IPL should start at $54-56,000 and have the 5.6L v8 420hp then it could compete with the ISF, RS5, AMG, M3, CTS-V etc and would justify the badge.

otherwise this thing is just starting to look like a big joke.
