Steering Wheel Vibration

Hey Guys I need some help...Whenever I hit or go above 50 mph and break, the steering wheel shakes violently. What could be the problem?

I set up an appt to go to the dealer next week, but I hope something like this is covered under warranty, especially since the car has less than 10,000 miles on it.

You should machine your rotors, they're uneven.

You prob warped your rotors and need to get them machined or get new ones.

yeah sounds like you have warped rotors, they should absolutely be covered under warranty (as long as you dont have any mods on the wheels/brakes)

Vibration at speed is an issue with wheel balance; wrapped rotors would not cause vibrations unless you're hitting the brakes.
I thought that was common knowledge.

ok, i was going to install my springs and wheels tomorrow, should i hold off before heading to the dealer. I googled this and there seems to be a tsb out, would the dealer blame springs and wheels for a known issue?

Never mind.. Sounds like you have uneven pad deposits on your rotors. Recently, have you done any hard braking applications and came to a complete stop? Any canyon runs? You can try rebedding the brake pads and see if the vibrations will go away. It's pretty tough to warp cast iron rotors just from daily driving unless you seriously ride the brakes like a grandma or track the vehicle.

No, don't install your springs. Take it to dealer first otherwise they will claim that your lowering springs messed up your alignment and that is causing vibrations.

Like everyone said, you most likely have warped rotors. Take to dealer, describe symptoms, say that you know its a common problem, and ask to have your rotors replaced.

Note: they are BRAKES, breaks are things you take in coffee rooms at work.

will do thanks

Note: you mean it's NOT its. it's is a contraction of it and is, so IT IS a common problem to have warped rotors. Its indicates possessive.

I have the same problem with my coupe, but it vibrates when I hit the brake pedal. When I took it in for my last oil change I mentioned it to my service advisor. I've actually had the problem since I took hold of hte car last July, but the service manager said the rotors needed breaking in and just press lightly on them to set them.Never worked. Anyways ... the service advisor told me there was a TSB for the rear brakes and they ordered the part for me under warranty. I'm taking it in today. I'll ask them for a copy of the TSB and post it in this forum.

Mines doing the same .... not a violent shimmy but you can feel it in the pedal and the steering wheel. Need to take it in.
