About to purchase a new coupe... :D

I'm in desperate need of a new car--my car RIP'ed yesterday

I really want the 2010 G37 coupe, but it seems like the availability is uncertain--some say 1-2 weeks, others say late February or even March. I don't think I can wait that long unless I go out and rent a car in the mean time from a friend who owns a used car dealership.

My other option is the 2009 model. I know there's only a minor difference, but it seems worth it to pay the extra $1500-$2000 for the 2010 model. Today, I was quoted from a dealership for the 2009 G37x coupe (premium + navigation package) for $36,000--which seems very good. But I'm still debating if I should go for the 2009, or wait for the 2010.

Any advice--on either the availability or if 2010 is worth the wait, etc? Thanks in advance. And I'm looking forward to being part of the family.

Negotiate down the 2009, I am sure they want to get rid of them.

I agree with BocaIvan. I am 100% positive that the dealer wants to get rid of any 2009 models. Just tell them you have no money for a new 2010 model, and keep negotiating to lower the price for a 2009 model.

I will visit the dealership Monday and get more details on the arrival and try to negotiate further on the 2009 just for the lulz.

But I'm leaning towards the 2010.

I think it's going to be a lot more than 1500. I say at least 4 to 5k.

+1 ^ Dealers will try to hold out on the 2010's to see what people will pay, i.e. less reluctant to deal, but they need to clear the 2009's before 2010's come in. There is $4500 of incentives on the coupe so you should push for below invoice - $4500 OTD, don't pay any BS dealer fees! Check out the Edmunds "Infiniti G37 Prices Paid and Buying Experience" forum for posts on what people are paying. Some are getting some wicked deals. I aslo agree with gooddeal that you're looking for at least a 4-5K difference between 2009 to 2010.

LOL, didn't you just get your wife a 2009 G37x?

There's literally no 2009 coupes at my local dealership, but they are mostly a Ford and Nissan dealer that also has an Infiniti franchise. I think they maybe have 3 2009 Sedans, 2 Convertables? No idea if they have any 2010 Sedans yet, they are a good 45 minute drive from me so I don't exactly go by them often.

agreed, no way there's only a 2k difference between the years, if so, somebody's not negotiating hard enough.
You have to remember, these are the most brutal times in recent history in the car business. If they have an 09 on the lot, and its the car you want, make them an offer6-7k below invoice, make sure they know you can buy that day, that you really want the car, that you're not going to pay more, that you're also talking to specific other dealers, etc etc..and be prepared to walk. You have to be tough with them because believe me they will grind every last dollar they can get out of you. You should be just as tough with them..

Thanks for the advice guys.

Yea, I asked the sales rep how much more the 2010 model will cost and he said $1500 to $2000 and mentioned $38k range. I think it was just a sales pitch. He knew that I really wanted the 2010 so I think he said that just to bring me into the dealership. I would agree that the price difference of the two are more like $5k. In that case, I don't think the minor upgrade would justify the price difference. I checked out the Edmunds forum (thanks Snoop!) and I'll see if I can haggle the price below $35k. That dealership has around eight 2009 coupes laying around so I'm sure they're eager to get rid of them.
