I think Infiniti errs on the conservative side, when it shows empty I have 4 gallons in the tank.

Almost all gas gauges on all cars will show the car being a little bit lower than it really is at the end of a tank as a reserve to keep you from running out of gas. Ours is about 3 to 3.5 gallons left in the tank when it reads "---" on distance to empty. So if you never fill the car more than 16 or 17 gallons nothing is wrong. That still doesn't address the OP''s problems though, as his is reading more full than it actually is which is definitely something wrong. Sounds like maybe the gauge sensor is not in the correct position and is reading high? But since t didn't do this from day 1, maybe something has broken or come loose to make it change to an inaccurate reading.

I agree with above, I notice with mine that when I was filling up when I was on E it would only take about 16 gallons. What I started doing was going below E to see what the deal was. I can get mine well below E and still not get any more than 18 or 19 gallons. E means there is at least 3-4 gallons left.

HI all,

I just noticed this today on fill-up. It is the second time now that when filled to top and the pump will put in no more, the guage only reads 7/8ths. I have not ever run it down really low to see how it is on that end. If it keeps up like this I will take it in and have my local dealer check it out....it sounds like the sensor issue referenced above....
