Thanks for clearing that up. Clearly I've lost my mind. I'm going to e-mail the sales guy and ask him.

even my QX56 and FX don't have a hill assist. i call my left foot on the brake the hill assist. but your'e driving a G37.... you think you'd be stopped so much anyways?

The STIs have hill assist but not the Gs. You will roll back if the hill is big enough.

But we all have hill assists, it's called the right foot.

I wish the G (specially the G35) comes with that option but I don't need it anymore! it's the right foot like everyone else said.

It's hard and frightening when I was a newb at manual, but now I don't even think about it starting uphill!

You just experienced the "creeping" which is there with any automatic cars except dual clutch automatic stuff.

anyway, that's usually powerful enough to hold the car from rolling back in most gentle hills.

I'm doubtful if you were on the steep hill at that time

More and more manual transmission cars are coming with a hill assist feature. Off the top of my head, BMWs have had this feature for several years, and Subaru even offers it on the Impreza STi these days.

HSA = Handbrake on those nasty hills when the idiot behind you stops inches from your rear bumper.
