shifting
short version:
its all about timing.
long version:
the revs drop at an "interesting" rate between 1st and 2nd unless you are shifting at redline (it drops perfectly for a fast shift at redline). It takes practice to get the timing down for a smooth but not overly slow 1-2 shift. The rev drop rate is different for different parts of the rev range on our car. I don't know if it's the mass of the flywheel or the ECU, but it definitely drops differently. For the 1-2 shift, there's a bigger drop in revs than the other gear shifts. This makes it harder to time and also there's more rev differential for the synchros to reconcile.

^^^^^Yea dude don't worry about it, I agree with everyone here. I've had an 04 and 06 6MT coupe and they've all been pretty rough on the 1-2 shift. My girlfriend has learned how to drive manual on my current G37, and I told her if you can drive this stick you can drive anything else.
BTW, test drive an 09 TSX w/manual and its smooth as melted butter on a silk pillow. Well, you get the idea...

Shifting? What's shifting? I just sit in first gear all the time, that damn 41mph speed governor is starting to get annoying, I think I need a reflash or something.
ive driven everything from hondas to race prepped porsche 911 gt2's and i have to say the g37 has a unique transmission, very very short 1st gear, almost as short as the gt2 and the i believe the clutch will gradually get loose enough where the shifting will be much much smoother
but i fruckin hate when my passengers go back and forth when i think im shifting smoothly. i feel like i suckz.
^hahahahahah sorry I just had the funniest mental image. Go back and forth, hahah.

Yeah, I was like that when I first started driving the G. it was a lot jumpier than my last car with an MT, my 95 Accord, plus I hadn't driven stick much at all since I got rid of that car, but after a little I got used to it and now most of my shifts are unnoticeable except for the sound.
the comparision from gt2 to the g37 in first gear is a bit off, i should have compared it to the 3 series, for some reason it just feels like the g is reving out so much quicker in first than other cars.
