The purpose of the spoiler is to increase downforce on the rear two wheels, if you're talking about the rear deck spoiler. In that process it is not as streamlined when compared to one that doesn't have one...therefore increasing its drag coefficient.

I won't dispute that; but then the only time that it would generate noticeable downforce is WAY ABOVE legal speeds.....
