I have to agree with you GiGGaplease. When I test drived the 5AT and the 6MT, I felt like the auto had more pull even though I had chirped the tires all the way until 3rd gear in the 6MT. When I mentioned this to the salesman he said that others buyers have said the same thing. Weird. BTW, this was at Legacy Infiniti.

Anyone who says an auto has more pull than a manual definitely has no idea how to properly drive a stick.

I can see why some people feel auto pulls harder. In some ways it does make sense. People who are biased about MT 100% pulls harder than auto are MT drivers and just hating and insecure. Be open minded please. GTR it auto....dont forget that.

The GTR's transmission is designed for racing though. The G37 is not. It is quick, don't get me wrong, but I wouldn't think of it like the 5AT like the GTR auto. When designed to be, auto transmissions are better than manual transmissions. I don't believe the auto in the G37 is though. It is not bad but it is not the best. Lots of old post about people complain about lag when they have to go around a car with their ATs.

hmm, no. if i want to make it pull harder, i would just redline the car everytime. however, i dont do that, i always shift at 2k-3k.

Ok so apparently my car is still settling (and getting faster) because I still haven't gotten used to the power, and yesterday I gave it the second push while showing a buddy of mine what it can do.

a) The car felt faster than when I gave it its first push.
b) It spun 3rd effortlessly.
c) Apparently my buddy's whip lash was so bad he ended up with a headache after the ride.

This is at 1700 miles and I'm still saying...WOW!

anyone know about the coating of the cylinders? I remember reading that the g35 engine was the first engine to have molybdenum coated piston rings and cylinder heads to reduce friction... I don't think any of you should be in the least bit worried about break-in... and another thing: cars are meant to be driven. i.e. the harder you drive, the better.
A coworker of mine has a 97 carrera and is always having problems with it and I told her its probably because you're not driving it hard enough...funny. she tells me that the porsche mechanic told her the same thing!
CARS ARE BUILT TO BE DRIVEN, SO DRIVE DAMMIT DRIVE!!!!

I haven't had one day in the life of my last two cars where I didn't redline it at least once on every drive. Today, I redline constantly and you should too. ENJOY YOUR G'S!

K, firstly, the GTR isn't an auto in the same sense that the 5AT is an auto, there is no slushbox in the GTR, it's a dual clutch setup, odd gears on one clutch, even gears on the other, and it transitions smoothly from one clutch to the other(if you consider sub 200ms smooth). The reason why an AT feels like it pulls harder is because of the torque converter which turns rotational energy into longitudinal energy(turns torque into hp). It also has a bit of give as the input shaft doesn't become directly connect to the engine, the force is transferred through hydraulic pressure. It's akin to the difference between swinging a 1lb weigh on a rope(6mt) and swinging a 1lb weight on a big *** rubber band, you can swing the weight a lot harder but at the end of the cycle you've generated the same amount of work from your energy, it's just delivered differently.

I love my G, it has to date been the most fun and the hottest car to drive. I use it as a daily driver and I travel up and down the east coast often for my photography work. I've had it for around 3 months and I have almost 8000 miles on it. Granted I've had a transmission issue it took less than a day to replace the tranny which was a pleasant surprise.

There is nothing like finding a nice backroad in the fall with the leaves all over the road and finding that line... you know that line. You drive it a little hard, you start to push the limit, diving into the turn and coming out with that sweet exhaust singing all the way up to 7600. There is hardly anything else that can but such a smile on my face than leaning deep into an apex kissing the edge of the asphalt while stepping into 2nd or 3rd gear slowly as you come out of the turn. It's absolutely amazing what this car can already do and what it's potential is.

I'm still moved when I walk up to it in the parking garage, and it looks less like a car that was parked there and more like an fine set of strokes from a paint brush gracefully painted in the air. The car is absolutely a work of art and there's nothing more pleasing than sliding into the cool leather that fits me like a glove, putting my hands on the controls and pressing that magical button that fires up my passion for driving and hearing that high strung v6 roar to life in it's computer-controlled calculated manner. From the first revolution of the engine to the last with every trip, it has been an absolute joy...

Nice to see that there are other people out there like me....grateful for what the car has to offer as opposed to almost everyone else either complaining or trying to compare the car to something else

Just broke mine in this past Sunday after my Oil change on Saturday.

I got a roll and chirped second and third and wow this car reminds me of my old hotrod TA in my younger days as far as power goes.

I did a launch too from a stop at 4,200 rpm and it stopped burning because I forgot to take of the traction control. Remember to turn that thing of if you want to light them up!

My Smile has been surgically altered
