Having a change of heart...
again, i've seen lots of "wish i bought 6mt"". but never the other way around. good luck with whatever you choose to do with the car. keep in mind that you will be paying taxes again, which i assume is an additional 2k or more. i think it would be easier to just live with the auto.
Not optimistic but you never know 'til you know...I'd go back to where you bought it and explain the situation and see what they can do. Also, are you sure the 6MT is gonna do the trick...?

Maybe the people who buy the AT are more "sure" of their tranny choice. They know exactly what they want?
funny thing is, i know exactly where those guys are coming from. my first car was an auto mustang gt. i didn't know how to drive a manual when i got the car, but when i learned to drive a stick/drove my friends 5 speed mustang, i wanted to trade my car in for a stick.
Unfortunately, this thread is turning into another one of those “Auto vs. Manual” debates. I believe it’s a specious argument on both sides, because there are valid reasons why drivers choose one over the other. My case is typical. I’ve owned many MT cars in my lifetime (e.g., Porsche 914, Datsun 280ZX) and I’ve enjoyed the pleasure of driving them. But now, living in a heavy bumper to bumper environment in Southern California, and needing my wife to drive my car every now and then, I chose auto. It’s not a matter of which is better; rather it’s what satisfies one’s driving needs at the time.
shifters and it was a blast to drive. Up and down shifts anytime anywhere. It takes alot of practice to use a manual correctly.
no, no...ithe other way around. auto guys always want a manual after they've bought their car. i have yet to see a single thread about someone regretting getting a 6mt. there are about a dozen threads on g35driver that go something like "how much would it cost to replace my auto with w/a six speed?", or "how much would i lose if i traded in my auto for a 6mt?".

I agree. It depends on the person's lifestyle, situation, location, type of car, etc. There is no right or wrong tranny (except maybe from a pure performance stand point).
When I went the dealership 2 weeks ago I told my salesperson that I had to have in a stick or it would be a deal-breaker. My advice is that if you are considering a stick at all, get it. You will not regret it. I live in LA with the worst traffic in the world but when I take my G out on an open or windy road it is all worth it. Both my cars are stick and it is like 2nd nature driving in them both. It rarely ever becomes a pain to own one. My other ride is a 63 ford falcon convertible. It is not a rocket like my G but more like a beautiful timeless cruiser. Still, nothing beats the feel of the butter-like feel of that 4 speed tranny. On the other hand I am happy the hear that Infiniti is living up to its name with its 5AT and its user friendly responsive paddle shifters. It does take practice getting good at quick shifting with 6mt on the G. I haven't completely perfected it yet, but my first test drive showed me its potential and everyday that I drive it I feel more and more confident. Never got to experience the 5AT. Would love to go for a ride. Maybe a swap for a few hours. Just don't try to keep mine.
