You know you own a G37 when…

You hear the cam chain tensioners not doing their job when idling - and they quiet down all is well. This of course make you wonder how long it’ll be before they need replacement. It’s been almost four years owning this car and it’s been a concern from the start yet… the clock is ticking….

When driving the car even 1x/month helps with your inner sanity.

Sound when you start it up and the fact that you have hated the seat belt for 15 years but you still love the car.

When your M3 driving co-worker says, yesterday some guy in a G was all over my as_ leaving work, and you just smile knowing he’s talking about you.

Isn't it funny that I fell in love with the 350Z from NFS Underground 2 back in the day - and I realized that the reason I fell in love with my G37 was because it shares such a similar design? I can't believe how lucky I was to nab a 2013 Journey trim and drive an upgraded and more luxurious version of my favorite childhood car.

Anyway, on topic: when you feel the car rock a little extra side to side off of a cold start.

I resonate with this statement. Why are our cars so fun to drive, even in a very civilized manner? Is it the time we invested in personalizing and caring for the car?

When a 20 something pulls up beside you in a pimped out Hyundai and wants to race, then realizes you are his Dad's age.

You know you have a G37… when it’s time for yet ANOTHER starter battery years before you expected to need a new one. I’ll try an AGM battery this time.

Before I switched to AGM, ~3 years was the interval.

Funny you should say that… I wrote my last post while sitting in an Autozone parking lot while researching batteries. I ordered an AGM from Costco which they’re delivering to my home where I’ll install it myself - hopefully for the last time until at least 2029.

I stopped burning through batteries years ago after I started using a trickle charger. Car only sees a few thousand miles a year these days, and the battery is 6 years old now. Before that... yeah, it was something like every 3 years.

+1 for trickle chargers. I have four (4) of them going. Trickle chargers ("maintainers") are pretty much mandatory for any modern car that sees limited usage. Between "normal" parasitic drain, environmental factors, and the battery design, it does not take much for these units to drop below what these cars need to crank.

For comparo, my Red Top was installed 10/26/2017 at 103,002 miles. Slightly over 8 years later and barely 120k miles the battery is still going strong. But, I always have a "jumper pack" in the trunk just in case...

+1 trickle chargers too. The G37 sits on one pretty much all the time (at this point, last time I drove it was August 2025) and I've got another one for the Audi when we go on longer vacations.
