Car and Driver The Quickest Sedans of 2008

I was reading CarandDriver.com and found this article:

http://www.caranddriver.com/features...initi-g35.html

It's interesting to see where the G35 Sedan placed in comparison to the 335i, etc.

I noticed on the spec sheet the the G35 with 306hp, 3583lb curb weight, pulled off a 0-60 of 5.2 seconds and a 1/4 of 13.9 sec @ 103 mph.

Now here is my question. I know the curb weight of the G37s is listed at 3770 lb (motor trend) here's where I'm scratching my head.

How can the coupe be that much heavier than the sedan? Is it because of the bigger engine/brakes/LSD?

3770 is probably with 4WAS, sport package with the 14" brakes...plus the huge steel reinforced doors don't help much either....

G37S' autos have already been tracked at 13.7s....

The coupe requires more reinforcement because of only 2 doors, thats probably where most of the weight comes from.

I'm glad that the doors are reinforced. I rather have heavy doors and a slower car than to take the higher risk of dying after getting t-boned at an intersection...

335i coup weighs more than the 335i sedan....its just the way it is. With these cars i dont really think 100lb is alot to be mad about.....they arent necessarily track cars....they are luxury base vehicles, and 13.8 -13.9 because of the added weight aint much of a loss IMO.

Coupes are 3668lb according to Infiniti... Wonder why there is a difference? Think Motor Trend weighed it with a Model in the car? haha

You guys realize that with the VQ37 going to the Sedan to create the G37 Sedan with 330 HP this means the Coupe's HP for 2009 will INCREASE. Infiniti pretty much uses the difference in HP between sedan and coupe as one of the main reasons for price gap between the two. What are all your opinions on that? Me personally I am a bit dissapointed that the coupe's power is not staying the same for one more year - gonna make me envious too soon!!!!

It's a deduction/assumption/prediction from practical knowledge of Infiniti's track record. They always leave room for improvement - on purpose. Even the site above mentions that rumor has it that the 2009 Sedan will become the G37 Sedan with 330 HP. And Infiniti has always with the G-series made sure the coupe sports more Horseys than the Sedan - it's one of the main reasons for the price increase on the coupe. So given that information on can assume that IF and WHEN the Sedan gets the 3.7L engine (rumoured to be for 09), then the Coupe's HP will shoot up. It will most likely stay at 3.7L displacement and will probably just have some tweaks to increase HP. My guess that it may sport about 345-355 HP to the crank.

Of course Infiniti may delay this until 2010 - who knows? I'm just a little guy at the bottom - the naive end consumer right?

Not necessarily. While the '03 and '04 Coupe had more power than the sedan (280 hp vs 260), the '05 and '06 Sedans had the same amount of power as the coupe: 280 hp 5AT and 298 hp 6MT link. Like the current V36/CV36, the V35 weighed less than the CV35.

I would rather them increase torque rather than hp 340hp and 330tq would be killer but might have to get into a v8 to do it realisticly.

that would be high 12's mid 13's for sure.

Yep, this is the reason for the increased weight.
