Motor Trend use to have a COTY award and an Import COTY award. More recently, due to globalization and the fact that some US cars are made in other countries and many foreign branded vehicles are made in the US, Motor Trend went to a straight COTY award.

This is why prior to 2003, all of the cars were American.

In 1990, Motor Trend's Import COTY was the 300ZX TT. That's the only one I remember b/c I actually had a couple of Zs back in the 90s.

Had Motor Trend combined the COTY and I-COTY awards earlier, I'm pretty sure it would have been mostly imports winning from some time in the 80s onward.

Well it looks like the Cadillac CTS is Motor Trend's COTY...according to Autospies that is.

I completely forgot about the CTS. It is the car that improved the most. I guess it deserves the title for 07.

Sweet, good find Alex. I personally think the new CTS is beautiful inside and out. Hands down the best domestic Sedan IMO.

Yep it's official it's the 08 Cadillac CTS, funny thing is that the G37 wasn't even a contender to be picked. Not sure where the OP sourced that from. Here's the article with all the contenders for the award:

http://www.motortrend.com/oftheyear/...ear_contenders

The G37 must not have been considered for some reason.

Caddy is right! This weeks Autoweek Mag has an article on the CTS and goes on and on about it and spends a lot of time comparing it to....yep, you guessed it THE 335i!! I'm sure the boys at Bimmer are having a field day with that one.

I forgot about the Caddy. They really made some improvements on the CTS for sure. It is one of many worthy choices.

Based on that list, I dont think performance counts for anything.
