Only if Apple designed the software...

So, had the car for a month now. Seriously, can't thing of another car I'd want to drive. I love it. But I must say, the UI on the nav and general operations of the voice recognition is so ****ing lame.

If only Apple or Google did the OS for this car - it would have been perfect.

Which brings me to another point - how lame are those nav screens with their sub-72 dpi and poorly anti-aliased ugly fonts.

Come on Infiniti - get some 230 dpi iPhone screens in there and let's get the 'avionics' at par with the rest of the car.

Am I being a whiny bitch here - or do others think the nav/UI/voice rec. should join the 21st century as well and be at par with the car itself? BTW, I have yet to see any other car who has anything better. They all stuck in 1996 from that aspect.

In fact, while you're at it, give me a holographic HUD with night vision and a TD box to lock on unsuspecting pedestrians focused at intinity, with some sexy chic who says "altitude, altitude" every time I corner to tightly. Wait, that's a different sport all together. But still would be nice...

The Corvette's HUD is the coolest thing about that car.

In my other vehicle I have a Pioneer AVIC. it is much easier to use than the one on my G. In some ways it is easier to read and has better graphics. In other ways it does not. With that said, I think that there is certainly room for improvements in the Infiniti NAV system.

A bit whiny but I must admit a car that is praised for its technology could have done better with the GUI on the nav screen. Something more iPhonish - Windows Vista-ish woulda been killer and honestly not that hard to design/program. Higher resolution on the screen would be nice too. At least for those that get the Nav Package which is worth $2200 and that's the cost of a state of the art laptop so you would think the nav could in theory have the interface of a mediocre laptop. I dunno.....I do agree though.

I think the Nav on the new G35/G37 is amazing! No complaints here whatsoever.

And FWIW, according to J.D. Power & Associates, a lot of of people like it as well since it has been rated the best according to customer satisifaction

Very cool, I didn't know they actually had official rankings for Nav systems.

i agree with others here... the nav/lcd stack is slick. it's laid out fairly well with tons of functionality. Regardless of what they build it's not going to work for everyone.. and it looks like you're that percent it's not working for. I'm a huge apple fanboy.. and this system is not apple.. it's more microsoft zune than anything else.. but it still works well.. and is way ahead of "most" other car systems out there.

I have only one issue with the systems functionality.. one i feel is a glaring hole in a great system.. fast forwarding through hundreds of albums/artists is terrible.

I agree the whole nav package is set up pretty well. There are some annoying things here and there but overall, it's well executed. The screen quality is definitely not on par with the likes of Lexus though.

totally

also - what's up with an up-and-down-only left-thumb *** on the steering wheel? Is it that hard to do a up-down-left-right flat-joystick type of controller?

The 2 most annoying things for me are:
1) Cant use points of interest function while driving, only use "places" function
2) CANT SCROLL PAST THE TOP 5 RESULTS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! so frustrating!

This is one of the most disappointing features.

If Apple designed the Nav you'd have to log into iTunes before getting a destination.

If Google designed the Nav you'd have a million ads being served up to your screen rendering the usable area to one square inch.

A friend of mine claims the most recent portable navigation units actually show you a live pic when you're approaching a turn. I wonder if Infiniti will be the first to feature this new technology on their vehicles.
