Start button and theft
LOL at people from the south who have no clue. For us who have to deal with winter, it is being done all the time, in the morning before heading to work. Depends on your neightbourhood. With a key, you would just lock the door when you walk away. The thread starter was probably simply wondering if the door locked automatically or not
Have you guys ever heard of remote start?
Wow..pretty interesting replies.
I'm not sure I'd go for a remote starter. Also not sure if they'd work for 6MT.
Anyway, the doors actually lock when the fob is outside and away for more than 5 metres?

See this thread for Remote Start info. In short, the car dies if you try to drive it without the fob.

With my Bimmer, if you start the car and walk out the car bings at you a lot. But the Fob is still useable so just walk out and lock the doors using the Fob and your good to go.
I think I know what the OP is asking. Is is possible to start the car, then get out of the vehicle, and lock the doors with the car running. It makes sense. If someone if going to steal the car, its going to get stolen no matter what. With a 6MT, hopefully there is more of a chance that they will stall nearby, so then they can't restart it. My question for the 07Sedan/08 Coupe owners, can you guys try the following:
1. Start the car the normal way.
2. Exit the vehicle.
3. Lock the doors with the lock button on the key fob or door handle (if it allows you to, if it doesn't, then no point in trying the rest)
4. Place the intelligent key far away (out of transmission range) from the vehicle, and attempt to enter by pressing the button on the door handle (The door shouldn't unlock)
5. Now use either the keyfob or button on door handle to unlock the car, then again place the keyfob far away from the car (out of transmisson range)
6. Enter the car, and try to move the car
I am asking you guys to do this as I hope two things will happen
1. In the 08 6MT - As soon as the clutch is depressed and the vehicle senses no transponder, the vehicle will shut off.
2. In the 07 Sedan/08 Coupe - As soon as the brake pedal is depressed to move the shift selector out of park, and the vehicle senses no transponer present, the vehicle will shutoff, or at least the electronic shift inter-lock feature will not allow the shift selector to be moved.
Thanks in advance, and please post the outcome.

You giving them an open invite to steal it. If you live in such cold weather deal with it...stay in the car til in warmms up then drive off. if you hate the cold so much...move to FL

why not install a remote starter? so u don't need to go outside until the car is warmed up and the doors will be locked.
