Driving home from work last night

So I was driving home from work last night and this Pontiac Firebird wanted to race me. It had to be a late 90's model or early 2000. I am not that familier with Pontiac models so I couldn't really tell the year. The kid and her girl were checking out my car and I guess his girlfriend must of like mine better because he started to speed up and slow down again. There were two problems with this. 1st I have under 500 miles on my car and I am trying to break it in slowly (which has been very, very, very, very hard). 2nd there were cars all around us. I really wanted to beat the crap out of his car but I remained calm. I am to old to race especially in the city where stupid kids like this could hurt someone (I was one of these in the past). I guess it is something I have to get use to driving a sexy beast like the G37.

You're not alone! I'm breaking in my G37 and I've been trying hard to ignore those who want to race. I also think some of them just want a little demonstration of the G37 pulling out ahead of them, so they can say "Daammmnnnn did you see that!"

I doubt it. Not sure what the "ws6/trans-am" is but the 2002 trans am ram air is 2 to 3 hundred milliseconds faster than the G37 1/4 mile time. With that little of a difference, it would come down to the driver. The car that I saw was definitely a Firebird though. The only way it would be able to beat the G37 is if it was modded.

the ws6/trans-am is the V8 model. exactly the same as a Camaro Z28 or SS. The 1998-2002 cars had the LS1 engine. it weighs less that the g37, has more hp, and wayyy more torque.

best i've seen for the G is like 14.0 ish.

best i've seen for a WS6/SS stock is like 12.9 or something...most people getting 13.2-13.4

The G is a much better car in my opinion, but an ls1 camaro/firebird will take it easily on a straight line.

edit: -- ok after reading on the forums it seems that someone has got a 13.7 with an auto G37. A 13.4 quarter definitely seems possible with the 6spd sport package so you could be right on this. We just need someone to actually go out and run their g37s...

Hello I had a WS6/TranAm 02 and it does have way more torque but it has "only"320hp this car will pull like a beast off the line and handles fairly well this is where the "WS6" comes into play but the G37 handles way better If your looking for bang for your buck not a bad car

Amen!

Selling my '99 Trans-Am WS6 is one regret I still have. It was bullet proof, fast as f*ck, and I loved how the import crowd loathed it; nice to own what a typical ricer would consider the anti-christ of cars.

My '06 G35 coupe (yes I've gone from Sedan to Coupe) wouldn't be able to touch it. The '07 may be faster, but not by that much.

Either way, I'm glad you weren't getting wrapped up in bone-head antics involving egos over engines. My biggest problem with the Trans-Am was people always wanted to race. Goes with the territory when you own one of those cars. But I found if I just rolled down the window, complimented the driver's car next to me, they were no different than I: car enthusiasts all around.

the ws6 was underated from the factory.

therefor it would rape a g37.

but the car your describing was probably some ****ty *** firebird.
