previous owners of g35 coupes hows the mpg on the g37 ?

Hi guys,

just wondering since it was one of the deciding factors for me.

I was previously getting 16 mpg with my regular driving habit and locations
when i was gentle on the throttle for a tankfull i would get 17.

just for reference the new car im getting around 19 with my regular driving habits and locations.
unfortunately I havent really been gentle on a tankful to determine the best mpg for my driving location im figuring around 22mpg.

anyways guys like i said just wondering what your getting if you previously owned a g35 coupe and upgraded to a g37.

thanks

ppp

Previous G35 owner here. Sorry to say MPG is not much better on the G37. I am getting maybe 2-3 mpg better.

I'm also getting average of 16mpg in local driving as well and I thought it was very poor and worse than my 2005 G35 sedan.

About the same. 1 or 2mpg higher if you drive conservatively but worse if you drive hard. That makes sense tho... 3.7L engine uses more fuel when driven hard. Driven moderately, it is just slightly more efficient thus far.

I thought MPG was supposed to improve with the VVEL technology?

According the presentation about VVEL, the efficiency is improved during steady-state cruising -- maintaining a speed, for instance.

Besides... it is a higher displacement engine producing more power, thus burning more fuel. Keeping the same MPG *IS* an improvement, if you think about it.

Makes sense. I do get pretty decent highway mileage.

I have 3400 miles now. In city, 16-18. Highway 25-27. Mixed 22-23. Yes, better than G35 by about 2-4 MPG. Use of DS helps.

^^How does DS help? That just moves the shift points up and will decrease MPG wouldn't it?

Went from a G35 6MT to a G37 6MT. I get about 2-3 mpg better, which is about 10%. Considering that's what the VVEL improvement was quoted as (10%), I'm not so sure why people are disappointed. I get anywhere between 19 (city) and 26 (highway) - usually 22 mixed.

MGP started off terrible- just like inthe G35 coupe. And now that I have some miles on it, I have seena drastic improvement- just lie in the G35. If the trend continues, we should see it continue to get better as we approach 3000 miles- just like the G35. At that point it will be easier to gage if MPG is better.

Don't have G37 yet, but once I learned how to drive a manual with more efficiency (when not driving hard of course) I was averaging about 23mpg, mostly city driving.

Once i switched jobs and had to do mostly freeway driving, it improved to about 25mpg. Hopefully the G37 will be at that since I drive mostly freeway

The DS helped since I was not shifting as much. Agree w/ the concept it should use more gas at the higher RPM, but it seemed to level the MPG and not cause as much fluctuation. Was watching the MPG meter and it stayed more constant then the up and down on the shift. Seems that at the higher RPM (2000-4000, not 5500+), the mileage improves. Maybe just my experience, but with over 3600 miles now, I'm starting to see some trending. Yes, the overall MPG is improving w/ the same mix of city/highway travel. We'll have to see how it plays out.
