Motor trend named G35 coupe & Sedan car of the year in 2003, which was one of the primary reason I got a G. So their opinion does matter.

they were both auto and the 335 has an extra gear. they need to do 6mt vs 6mt next for comparison

teh gearing ratios 1-3 are the exact same on the auto and manual. So I doubt there will be much of a difference. The TC onthe G is also high stall.

let me ask a question... since the 5at G37 is only 5 speed doesnt that mean the RPM's will likely to be higher than if it was 6 speed?
doesnt that also mean that you will be always closer to the peak torque so when you push it the car will not necessarily need to down shift.
does that sound reasonable?
and as a result of that the gas mileage isnt as good as the 6 speed.
but doesnt that also mean that at higher speeds the 6spd will have an advantage?
im not necessarily comparing 335 with G37. im comparing G37 (hypothetical) 6spd auto with 5spd auto

No it doesn't. 6 speeds probably has a better chance at acceleration as it has more gears to choose from.

RPM is not totally dependant on # of gears. Ie.. if you had a 3sp auto, then the gears are WIDELY spaced. So for muc of the time, it has to live at a really LOW rpm.

Ultimate crusing rpm is dependant on the last gear and final drive ratios

yah you make sense. the reason why i said that is i noticed the 07 G35 sedan goes to almost 4k rpm when im at 80 miles. which i thought was too high.
i thought if it had another gear it would settle down a bit.
it's like when i drive 80 mph in 5th gear. but i guess that's different with the ratios

Of course they matter. I don't know any of you in this forum who have had your hands on a g37 to drive yet. So the magazines play a big role in letting us know about pre production cars. In the end its all about your opinion, but for now in the case of the g37 i think its important to hear the thoghts of the magazines. Are Edmund's and c&d planning a head to head with the 335i and g37 anytime soon? Also the whole purpose of the whole june 25th hold off date for magazines didn't really seem to have a purpose or did it and maybe i just missed it?

After reading the article, I must say I am disappointed on 3 counts:

1. The 0-60 time is slower than the Sedan and .3 seconds slower than the 335i. Quarter mile ET and trap speed are good, but not great. With 330 hp, I was hoping that 0-60 would be in the high 4 second range and quarter mile times in the 13's with a trap speed of around 105 mph.

2. The weight is a rather porky 3770 pounds. Not exactly a lightweight. Why would the Coupe be heavier than the Sedan?

3. Fuel economy is down 3mpg from the 335i. Really now, with the latest variable valve train, couldn't the mileage have been slightly better?

Nevertheless, it is great to see Infiniti ranked above BMW if for no other reason than the fact that guys on BMW forums will be grinding their teeth over the "lowly Nissan" that beat the BMW as one BMW forum member put it.

1. Weight is most likely the culprit.

2. I believe the coupe is heavier than the sedan because of the more reinforced doors for safety reasons.

3. Remember. Fuel economy will be different for everybody. Car and Driver got that 18mpg number but Edmunds got a higher mpg.

now that infiniti won over the 335 is when they ask, ''does it matter''. What a bunch of bull! If the 335 wouldve won that question wouldnt be asked, there is always something, why cant they just flat out admit the g37 is the better car, PERIOD.

Note:

The "Beemers" are the motorcycles built by BMW. Sometimes it is also spelled "Beamer."

The "Bimmers" are the cars.

This is the straight skinny from BMW owners and the official publications on all things BMW.

so the correct phrase is those who "ride beemers" not "drive beemers". is this what you're trying to say
