Convertible top stops halfway through... Bumpers and Tape wiring?

My top would only open halfway then give me trunk open error and pause the process. Restart to close top.

Dealer scanned and it had the parcel shelf code recently- along with a handful of codes 39 drives ago. They recommend replacing that (I think just the motor but I'm not sure).

Since then I've found a few things on focums people say they fixed and it stoppedstoppetrunk open error while opening the top. Who knows if it would actually help, but I'm willing to try if it means saving me $2k+.

1st pic- These wires are hanging down. Should I tape these to that block behind the plastic cover?

2nd pic- No bumpers. I heard this also is what caused trouble for some people.

Although I'm not sure how long these issues have been present in my car. I assume they have been like that long before the error was happening.

Any idea if doing these things would help? Also any tips for taping the wires?

I just got the Trunk Open issue. Some have said it may just be the battery. I'm interested in seeing if there's something to your findings

My battery is maybe a year old.

Today I'll get those two stoppers in and tape up the wiring a bit. Not expecting it to fix it but if it does- awesome.

I also just found I'm missing one of these silver stoppers
Thoae two things sticking up, the one to the right, the shinier one. My right side doesnt have that. 😂 So many odds and ends are missing. Im slowly filling the gaps.

Just out of curiosity, is your car slow to start? Mine feels like the battery isn't pushing enough to the starter. My battery has 640CCA

If the missing stoppers help fix the issue, they would be awesome! I need to check for those as well on mine

Car is not slow to start. Before I got the new battery it took a bit more cranks to start, especially in the winter months.

Well, I'll be damn flagergasted pinecone. I cleaned up the trunk and metal components, taped up the wires to that metal piece behind that plastic cover in the left part of the trunk- the plastic will open if you rotate the right part open to the left gently, you have to hold it open (none of the wires looked frayed or disconnected- just dangling down), next I took out what was left of those rubber bumpers- cleaned the area with acetone, then added 2 $3.75 bumpers from home depot https://www.homedepot.com/p/1-in-x-2...8248/204273790, and lastly that silver bumper I was missing- I found it in the bottom compartment of my trunk by chance when I was cleaning it out.

I am staying humble and expecting this issue to come back up. But for now, I'm enjoying open top cruises!

Very cool! I thought I was missing One of the silver bumpers on the left side, but it was covered by a piece of the headliner

I need to figure out how to put it back in place, but glad you were able to get back up!

Enjoy the top down fun!

Thanks! Just keep twisting it in the whole till the groves line up and push down. It will be a little springy. You can feel hownthe other side is springy too.

I thought I'd give it a try today and my top opened without issue! I had my car running for a few minutes before trying, so I'm thinking the battery may be an issue.

I was trying to figure out some things with the car and I think that silver piece is actually a trigger for a sensor. By putting that back in, your top can determine where that part that's being triggered is in the process. I noticed I can push mine down and it will pop back up. Hopefully that's what fixed your top.
