Smelling gas when top down and windows up

I’m smelling gas or fumes when I have the top down and windows up. Anyone else have this issue?

Start by doing the following:
  1. Check and smell around the area of the gas cap. Is it loose? old? Time to replace?
  2. With car running, walk around car, get on your hands/knees and start smelling.
  3. Look for signs of gas leaks starting at the gas cap, under car up to engine.
Give us more details as well. Year of car, mileage. These could help narrow down known problems

I suspect you have a gas leak. Driving with the top down and windows up creates a draft effect that sucks air in from behind. That might explain why it's most evident in those circumstances.

How would you find the gas leak or fix it? I have a 2011 103k and think I have a similar issue.

ahh... so it's coming from the back. I'm taking it to get checked for an exhaust leak. I noticed it smelled under the passenger door when I checked under the car.
