My daughter borrowed my car (roof was closed), put stuff in the trunk without putting down the divider, and later tried to open the roof.
Next thing she knows, the rear window shattered.
The stuff in the back bent the frame around the window causing it to shatter. Now, the roof is stuck about 2/3 open.
I tried to close it and got the “Trunk Open” error. I’m afraid to try anything else. Thankfully, it was only a mile from my house. I drive it at 8mph home.
Two questions:
1 - How can I get the roof either fully open or fully closed?
2 - How do I safely get it to an auto body shop? (Or should it go to the dealer?)
I’m also afraid insurance will total it. I will be crying myself to sleep tonight regardless. 😭
A relearn is the least of OP's problems at this point.
OP, depending on who does the repair, you might be able to just replace the rear panel (w/ the glass), however, I have a feeling that depending on what else may have been damaged, the car may be declared a loss. Depends on the limits of your comprehensive coverage.
Either way, sorry to see that damage. I wish you all the best hope it works out for you. Please keep us updated.
So she put a stereo receiver in the trunk and closed it on it? Damn, sorry to hear that. Hope it is covered and you get back to enjoying this cooler weather once again.
Keep us convertible owners up to date on what happens. Good luck.
