Hey folks, I'm glad this forum exists, got a lot of questions.
I just got a '14 Q60 that has a couple of gouges on the 2nd section of the roof panel on the drivers side. I thought it was just the result of someone not taking care of the car. Now after reading some posts here about roof operation, I'm wondering if the mechanism did the damage as the result of something related to the operation of the roof. Any thoughts? Thanks in advance.
Update; I called an Infinity dealer and spoke to a service advisor. He stated that the top operation was a problem from the beginning and that is why they stopped making verts.
My solution I guess is fix the "snake bite" and enjoy the car as a coupe and not operate the top at all. Too bad, it is a low mileage car in great cosmetic condition and something I have wanted to own since the 35 came out. I regret getting a vert, but, it's just a friggin' car.

 

I was wondering the same thing as I recently purchased a 2011 convertible. I was curious where those gouges came from I'm thinking the bumper on the inside of the trunk where it rests. I had to replace one of them. I'm under the same impression that as this is my third car, i'm only going to drive it with the top down and from what i've read, keep a batter charger on there if I am not going to drive it after 3 days, I spoke with my Infiniti dealer and he said the weak battery and not driving it will cause the top to malfunction more than anything else.

 

If you are talking about the roof panel with the glass, it's likely from the worn out bumpers - replace two big discs as that's what the roof rests on when you are driving with it down.
Also, have someone else operate the roof, and stop it a few times, while you are watching the operation on both sides. Make sure that every motions has the right clearances and the roof comes down softly and on the right pieces.

These cars are meant to be driven and some basic maintenance and care goes a long way.

 

Thanks for the response! Has anyone tried using a clear protective wrap on the middle panel, or entire roof I wonder? I appreciate this forum.

Kiseliok, Actually talking about the middle panel, the one that shows the marks. I am wondering if a clear protective wrap might help with those marks appearing. You drive a vert., correct? Pretty car. How have your roof panels held up? What do you think of the idea of using a very thin piece of rubber padding taped to the top when it's down?
Any suggestions would be appreciated. I am looking into ordering new bumpers for the trunk as well. Thanks!

 

I've had the car for many years and did not have any signs of wear on the roof - that's why I'm so confident that when the mechanism is working correctly and all the rubber bits are soft, you shouldn't need any film to prevent damage.
My thinking is also this, if your roof is rubbing on something, it might rub through the film that you are thinking about applying.
