Rear spoiler weather seal
Rear spoiler weather seal
I will be pulling the rear spoiler on my 09 vert off next week to paint it (and the grill and all four wheels). It is currently chrome with the rear-view camera and the taillight. I haven't been able to locate a replacement weather seal for it. Anyone know where I can find one or should I just use double sided tape?
Technically there is no "weather seal" as that piece is not water tight. Nissan uses a felt-based tape between the chrome "trim" piece and the decklid to prevent the paint from getting scratched. The Nissan-branded replacement tape is ridiculously overpriced (roughly ≈$100 a roll p/n: 68239-13E00).
Any suitable 3M double-sided tape should suffice. I believe the 3M Acrylic Foam (red) tapes are the most popular choices for exterior panels but you'll have to research what works for you. Again, you are only adding a protective, "insulating" layer to protect the paint from scratches not a fastening method.
Keep in mind that there are rubber pads/ grommets that seal the holes in the decklid where the bolts pass through. Be sure to NOT lose these pieces as they are what prevents water from leaking into the trunk area.
