Sloppy Roof Latch

Hi All,

I snooped around and didn't see this problem reported. I have a loose roof latch on my '09 Vert. The passenger side latch has a lot of slop in it when fully closed, and makes an obnoxious chatter when going over bumps. Wind noise is also significant at highway speeds. I'm really surprised I don't have a leak.

I called the dealer about a roof ITB. He looked up the VIN and said it hadn't been done to my car, that it was out of warranty, and that I was looking at 7 hours of work @ $120/hour. Yikes.

I'm hoping it's a matter of adjusting the latch.

Any thoughts or recommendations?

Thanks in advance,
Doug

OK now I feel really stupid. Tightened 2 latch bolts and problem solved.

I hope my stupidity helps someone else.

Come on Spring!

Don't feel stupid. The roof mechanism is so freak'in complex it's easy to assume it will require an expert to work in it. Thanks for posting, I'll keep an eye on those bolts from now on.

Yeah thanks much. Can you imagine how pissed you would have been if you got billed $840 for them to do just that??? I hold my breath everytime i think something needs addressed on the top. I was taking it to the dealer every other week while under warrany just to be sure. They probably thought i was a idiott as well.

I look forward to spring too but down to about 45 degrees ill throw on the seat heater, run the heat to *0 and wear a hat and i cruz just fine with the top down. You get some looks though.

I like Crawdad8796's post. Poke around at your car and don't be afraid to monkey with it a little. I had a similar problem with my 2011 37 vert. Had a bad rattle coming from the rear last winter. Couldn't figure it out until I looked at the trunk latch. The 2 bolts holding it on came loose. Tightened them up and problem solved. Also had an issue with the top stopping 1/2 in cycle. Looked at it and saw the wiring harness came loose and frayed the wires. Took it to dealer who taped it up and all is good.
