Taillight removal. trunk plastic thing
Taillight removal. trunk plastic thing
i looked on the forum for a d.i.y taillight removal but cant find one. i know there is 3 bolts that need to be removed but how do u get the trunk plastic part off to get to them? im afraid to break something, anyone have any pics of hoe to remove the plastic thing?
Ya, I recently tried to take them out and had trouble. I noticed, that looking in through the trunk (assuming you are looking at the left side of the car) when I look in I see the 2 plastic pieces, probably the clips everyone talks about, with a rubber type of cover. I tried taking the cover off, but it wouldn't budge. I have heard you are just supposed to rip them out.
Did I read the other comment correct, you lift up? It doesn't feel right just applying force to rip them out, but if that is what you're supposed to do then that's what you're supposed to do, I would just love some confirmation, maybe pics, something. I did find some picks and a bit of a DIY, it just doesn't feel right, I was always told don't force things and I don't want to break anything then need to buy new parts or something. Any help is awesome!

Not sure if you figured this out yet, but below is how I removed mine for the overlays I installed:
You'll need a flat head & phillip head screw driver. With the flat head screw driver, remove the push pin clips (the ones with the ring on them) near where the top flap locks in (for putting top down). Then remove the other 2 push pins (flat ones, without rings) that are located on the front side of where the top flap locks in (these are tough to get out, carefull not to scratch the plastics). With the phillip head remove the (2) screws holding the cover in place where the top flap locks in. You'll need to pry upwards to unclip these. Next remove the trunk light and unplug it. Once that's done you'll need to lift up the floor panels (all of them) so you can see the bottom edge of the panel covering the lights (or rear panel). Starting from one side at the top, gently pull the rear panel upwards. There are 2 white push clips on each side of the panel and a few locking clips in the middle that hold the rear panel in place. After this is removed you'll see the 2 tail light clips. Re-install would be the reverse process. Good Luck and be gentle with all the panel clips (they will break)!
