Should I be upset about this?
Should I be upset about this?
Hello all and thanks for your help with all my other questions.
As I mentioned, I picked up a 2010 G37 S convertible at the end of December. The one annoying issue with the car is the roof rattles (they actually sound like baby rattles). The dealer I purchased this car from is 1.5 hours away and he couldn't fix it, even though he said he would. So I bring the car to a local Infiniti dealer 20 minutes away. I describe the rattles and drive off in a loaner. A few hours later the new "service" dealer calls and tells me that the car was taken in 9 times over 2 years to the original dealer to fix the roof rattles. He said that I shouldn't be upset if they can't eliminate the rattles, since this is a chronic problem with this car. As I have a low tolerance for BS, I called Infiniti customer service and told them about the situation. They opened a case with the details and then promptly closed it, just in case the "service" dealer fixes the rattles. They told me to reopen the case if I get the car back and it still rattles. Please let me know what I should do? I really hate rattles, especially rattles that sound like baby rattles.

Do the rattles happen only when you drive on bumpy roads or crossing bumps? That is inevitable as the roof may flex (not sure of what better word to use here) and and cause the squeaks. When the top is down, sometimes there will be knocking noises back in the trunk when the road is really uneven. It shouldn't sound too jarring, either that or I had gotten use to it.
I had the same issues when i first got the car and the dealer promptly did ITB12-003A and the noises were significantly less. The jarring sound in the trunk was also dampened, probably foam or something they put inside. I hate to tell you but i think noises in this vert are a common thing, so long as its not too alarming type of noises. I can't help you with your dealership issue as I have not experienced this from my dealership yet.

There are some other squeaks I could live with but the baby rattle sound above my head is out of control annoying! I showed the dealer my printout of "ITB11-035 TSB: RATTLE OR RUBBING NOISE FROM ROOF AREA" and he said he knew about it already. I don't expect perfect, just pretty good.
So the story ends pleasantly. The rattles are 95% gone and I am much happier.
I also asked the dealer to check for the latest transmission update, and they said I first must change the engine filter to an Infiniti brand filter ($140), not the aftermarket one that's in the car? I called the original Infiniti dealer and they will put in an Infiniti engine filter free of charge, I just need to get all the way back there (almost 2 hours away).

What engine filter? Oil filter? Intake filter? Do you have an aftermarket intake on your car? What does the intake have to do with the transmission update... dealers will find anything to hassle you I swear.
It's the air filter for the engine. The dealer said it would throw off the exhaust calibration because it's less restrictive than the Infiniti air filter. They were trying to bleed money out of me, but at least they are good with roof rattles.
