may have found my new car
Hi Ya'll...
newbie here - have been looking at new cars (or new to me cars) and the G37 vert is one of my top options (well, top now that I ruled out BMW because of their problems). Tonight I stopped by my local infiniti dealer to look at colors. (online they didn't have any CPO, so I was going to have to travel if I were to buy one). Well, I originally wasn't interested in the black until he showed me the black obsidian. (the one with the burgendy undercoat). ohhh... pretty!
And the price on it was in my price range (an unsold 11).
The catch is - it's got a deposit on it. Guy put deposit down before xmas and has been putting dealer off this long. So - if guy doesn't take delivery tomorrow - I have an option.
Now - my big question is - I've been researching and reading up on the G and lookign thru the TSB's. Seems that one of the biggest complaints are 1. roof rattle/creaking and 2. roof leaks.
In all seriousness - how common are these issues and are there any other big "maintenance" issues to be forwarnded about.
(for the record, I currently own an 03 maxima with $190k miles and one reason I like infiniti is the nissan backing and quality plus.)
So - for those who are gonna ask - specs on my possible purchase... 11 G37 vert - premium, sport and nav.

I have an 11 convertible and have not had the issues that some folks have had with leaks and rattles.
I have had a few drops come in around the tops of the windows after I wash it but I don't consider that an issue. The only time I hear the roof rattle is if I happen to go over a big pot hole or bump. Otherwise in normal driving including moderate road imperfections, I don't hear anything unusual at all.
I have 12,000 miles on mine and it is a year old this week and have had one issue that the dealer fixed quick while I had a loaner. My trunk wouldn't close all the way after my top went up one day and it was due to the headliner being stuck in one of the tracks. So the system shut down as it should to prevent damage. I had it towed in and it was fixed quick.
I have owned several Nissans over the past 25 years and have had real good luck and satisfaction with all of them. That is the main reason I have my G convertible and this one is by far the best. You will absolutely love this car!

Hey, I had an issue once with roof leak (only when I went through car wash and the pressure washer sprayed the roof) and told my dealership. They immediately changed the lining and no problem since. If your buying a new G37 convertible, should have less issues since they've had 5 years to perfect it now. LOL
welcome & good luck on your decision. There are lots of 2011's left over so dont feel pressure to move quickly, Make a rational decision and do all your homework (which it sounds like you are doing).
I have an 09 and picked up one of the first verts on the east coast and while it is not my DD it has been worry free. Sure, there will be noise from any convertible top however, the dealers are now much more in tune with potential problems and know how to fix them. Plus, you will be buying new so you will have a full warranty. The Vert is a lot of fun but MUCH smaller than your Maxima. Storage and trunk space is limited so if this is important, you should reconsider. Lastly, before you fully commit - go for a LONG test drive on highway, side roads etc and really put the vehicle through its paces to confirm that it is the reide for you!
Again, good luck!

thanks for the input guys.
There do seem to be limited quantities of new '11 in my area. But I am keeping my eyes open. I am keeping an eye on autotrader for other locations that would be a day's drive and near larger airports that would allow cheap flights into, if it comes down to that. Of course, the deal would have to be spectacular to also count in the airfare, hotels and gas for travel.
I'm also looking at certified pre-owned - but those seem to be in even more limited supply. I guess that is a good thing - the G isn't like a BMW, MB or Lexus where owners lease for 2yrs then trade. Infiniti owners appear to keep their cars.
bschurr - I am keeping Max. It will be my "rainy day" driver, the car to transport the dogs in, people mover, etc. I occasionally travel for work - and will use Max if I have to transport equipment. (Max has some minor cosmetic damage from transporting old computer monitors as well as doggy nail scratches in the leather). But Max was tricked out when I purchased it 10 yrs ago. I had it loaded with everything except Nav. (and hindsight - who would want a 10yr old Nav system.....). I love my Max and I'm not ready to give it up yet.
Oh - and another question for Bschurr - I see you have graphite interior - How is that holding up for you? Are you noticing wear or noticable soiling?
Matter of fact - I wasn't planning to look for cars till after April of this year. But once I started browsing for what I wanted, the bug hit.
