I've noticed that my "smurf" antenna has caused a real decline in FM reception. AM and XM seem largely unaffected.
The screw in antenna (stick or Smurf nubbin) only affects AM & FM (and you typically dont even require an antenna for AM due to its operating frequency). Satellite radio antenna is the base unit under the screw in post.
If you get the OEM rear spoiler, the AM/FM antenna is relocated to an area within the spoiler itself and the current Satellite antenna is replaced with a slightly smaller unit with a new cover that deletes the screw post.
I had the smurf and currently the spoiler. I am in chicago and I noticed a loss of FM with the smurf, and the spoiler is about the same as teh large bumble bee antenna.
I thought you recently had the OEM spoiler kit installed and is causing reception issues? Is it AM or FM or Satellite?
If you are getting poor FM with the newly installed OEM Spoiler then I suspect that you didnt ground the antenna properly. One of the 2 holes that you need to drill into the front face of the trunk is used to accommodate a grounding wire for the antenna module in the spoiler. If this wire is not making proper contact with the grounding nut (on the inside of the trunk lid) then you will get crappy reception. In the install instructions there was a step to check the continuity (ohms) of the AM/FM circuit -if this was not validated, I would begin my search there.
