Infiniti G lineup to get Mercedes 4-cylinder engines as part of new alliance
#17
remember the G20's that people loved??
it's amazing how many 4-cylinder TSX's are out there .... if we had a $30k 4-cylinder luxury sedan I'd say it'll be 30% market share in the price point. A lot of non-forum lurkers don't care about all this horsepower. Plus, new government fuel efficiency guidelines for the upcoming years will hurt the enthusiasts

All I have to say is that I'm glad I got into a G before they switched to Merc powerplants. It is hard to imagine the value proposition of an Infiniti increasing with Mercedes motors under the hood and the distinctive tone of Nissan's VQ engine was a big part of this car's appeal. I can see how this makes good business sense on paper, but I would be skeptical about the odds in practice.

Sure a V6 will give you more power. Yet the Audi A4 feels fairly good, the torque is just a hair less than the G37. Had a 2007 A4 quattro and was very pleased with it... If you check 0 to 30 mph (i.e. most of your traffic) you'll see very little difference between the 4 cilinder plant in Audi and the 6 cilinder in G37. That being said, I don't know about the Merc 4 cilinder, never drove one. The 6 cilinder in C300 does feel quite whimpy ... Wait and see...
