Infiniti G lineup to get Mercedes 4-cylinder engines as part of new alliance - egmCarTech
"As a part of Renault-Nissan and Daimler AG’s new alliance, Infiniti’s G lineup will receive Mercedes-Benz ]. Renault SA and Nissan Motor Co. CEO Carlos Ghosn said that the G lineup will get Mercedes-Benz’s inline 4-cylinder engines to improve fuel-economy figures and curb emissions." Hopefully, these emasculated 4-banger G's are just the base models and they will continue to offer high powered V6 models. If not, I'm going to keep my G37 for a long time. |
4 cylinder = FAIL!

Oh noez :icon43:

bahumbug itll never happen!

In all fairness to Infiniti, the next generation BMW 3 series will use 4 cylinder turbos while the M3 will use a 6 cylinder turbo. All of the manufacturers are just trying to meet the government mandated fuel economy starndards.
|
Maybe a 4 cylinder turbo base model? That wouldn't be all that bad if Infiniti is thinking about competing with the 328i as a nice daily driver...
|
Otgher news stories say that MB will provide Infiniti (not Nissan) with I4 and V6 engines. I don't know why they'd offer V6s since Nissan seems to be doing a good job at designing those.
|
I doubt the US would ever see a 4 banger G; we don't get any MB 4 bangers here to begin with, nor do we get the 'low performance' engine from other manufactuers that are common in the rest of the world.
Americans like their horsepower and torque. |
I'm not too surprised. I had come across articles mentioning the move to a 2011 G25 to compete with BMW 328 since the G fits the entry-level luxury category. A 2.5 4-cylinder seems a realistic approach. A lot of signs point to a smaller G, but I'd hope and expect it to be an option in the same way there is a M35/45. Future G25/37 to contend with BMW 328/335 seems possible to me.

The G25 is a 2.5L V6. It'll compete against the 328i and the G37 will compete against the 335i.

remember the G20's that people loved??
it's amazing how many 4-cylinder TSX's are out there .... if we had a $30k 4-cylinder luxury sedan I'd say it'll be 30% market share in the price point. A lot of non-forum lurkers don't care about all this horsepower. Plus, new government fuel efficiency guidelines for the upcoming years will hurt the enthusiasts |
Can MB top the 4.6L V8 twin turbo engine into M? LOL

Golf GTI, Mazdaspeed 3. Of course, those are all lighter cars than the G sedan I think. I hope it doesn't go FWD though. |
