It is not the same engine they use here in the Altima.
Now that that is cleared up, I think this car will be successful in the US. If they keep it around 250-280HP and about 5k cheaper than the current G37 It will be a great, direct, competitor to the 328. And that's the target of this car, not the G37.

It will go after the same cheapskates that go for the 328 instead of the 335 that the G37 couldn't quite attract. So what if the sales of G37s get reduced a bit. The overall numbers of Gs sold will rise. And that's the bottom line, units sold. I think it's a great move from Infiniti and I welcome this car in the G family.

Stratos.-
Agreed! The more sales and revenue for Infiniti the better. Infiniti still needs a flagship Sedan to replace the Q and also a performance lineup to compete with the M series, F series, and AMG models. IMO, the more profitable Infiniti is, the better chance of them releasing models like that.

And for those that don't think so, I'd bet my year's salary that the G25 Sedan will share the same body style as the G37 Sedan.

the 2.5L 4-cylinder in the Altima/Sentra/Rogue are built out here in the states

remember, Infiniti's are all built 100% in Japan.
the last 4-cylinder days of the G20 are over...

And I agree with your points - I would love to see Infiniti start a performance line-up, a la M, F, AMG, but with the current economic and political climate, I can't imagine it happening any time soon.

I too can't imagine the G25 having a different body/chassis, it just wouldn't make economic sense. Although I would hope there would be SOME difference between the two, like different front fascias, rear valance, wheels, etc.

Agreed, I would be very surprised if they didn't. They offer different front fascias and wheels between Sport and non Sport models now so one can only assume that the G25 will have unique features of it's own.

Regarding Infiniti offering a performance lineup.......I think it will take a little time yet, but I do think they will at some point in the future. Even though Infiniti has officially been around since 1989, it really has only been on the map since 2003 when the G came out. They've come a LONG way over the last 6-7 years, but their brand perception isn't where BMW, Merc, and Lexus is. In time, I think it will be though.

I imagine it'll be almost the same. Since everything else about the car will be almost identical, except for the engine, I doubt very much that there will be any meaningful weight reduction.

haha i love how people leaving comments on that site don't know how to read. A ~250 hp V6 sounds pretty bad *** to me. If I had the choice a couple years ago, I might've opted for the smaller engine too.

"yeah, but the BMW inline-six is sweet to rev. I'd have a hard time choosing a turbo-four over it, with lower output."

"Now this numbers of this turbo engine are very low, poor indeed. Only 210 horses? only 195 of torque? From a turbo V6? LOL crap"
