intake and oil question

I have done a search, but didn't get the exact answer I was looking for.
Does the JWT Popcharger and Z-tube combo sounds the same/similar to the CAI's from say Injen or AEM? I am supposing that the 'hissing' would likely be largely absent, just was curious as to the sound comparison as I am confident that the performance differences between the 2 would be negligible.

Secondly, what weight of oil are you guys using? I'm in sunny Florida, but was thinking 0-20 or 5-20. I use Royal Purple synthetic, but was curious as to the weight the majority of the modded or hard-driven cars were using (since the VQ is new to me)...

Thanks guys...

5W 30 is recomended. I have the Injen and have the whistle sound but i strongly advise against the injen the filter is too much of a pain in the A$$ to change.

c'mon...there has to be more replies than this!!!

I did go ahead and order 5w-30 RP oil. I also ordered the Motordyne 5/16 spacer. I want to get an intake ordered, but...

I have it narrowed down to the JWT-Pop, Injen or the Nismo (probably the latter). Any last thoughts???

I have the K&N stock replacement filter and a Z tube. I use Mobil 1 of the recommended weight, which I think is 5w-30. Going to a 0w-30 isn't going to make a difference in Florida. The 0w will just flow better in really cold weather, which is a non-issue here. We could pretty much use straight 30 weight.

There's hundreds ....maybe thousands of replies to these beat ta death subjects in the 'search' !!!! I told ya that when I replied (which I wasn't gonna reply, but you're new and what the hell) Now try 'Pop Chargr, CAI, Oil filters, Oil, Plenums, Motordyne, Aps, etc............................................... ..

Actually, they really never did answer the direct question concerning the sound. They concern CAI theory, hp gains, etc. I just had the sound curiosity. I think I am going to go with Grubbs G35 intake which is pretty sweet looking, or the Injen/AEM, and I should be able to sell either easily after I go FI.

As far as the oil, I got more theory, etc and explanations of weight, blah blah blah. I was simply inquiring what weight the majority of modded users were going with in this rather warm state. I am new to the engine, not the mod game...

The intake sound goes up muchly above 4000rpm. Nice ...I like it. The guys with 'pocket protectors' and thick glasses generally find it too loud. lol

RP 5w-30 for me. I have used Mobile 1 for my last two changes and did oil an analysis for each which did not impress me too much. It will be interesting to see the comparison between Mobile 1 and RP.

As far as the intake. I just had the Nismo CAI installed today. Love the sound and the look. No hissing, just a deep rushing of air when you punch it above 2,500. I hope to dyno again in the next 30 days to see if there is any difference.

I use Royal Purple 5W-30 as well. Before the switchover (which was at 30k), I had used regular dino oil. I am awaiting my next oil change interval so I can send my used oil to blackstone labs for testing. I have the kit ready and waiting.

Regarding CAI, I have the K&N typhoon intake. It wasn't my personal choice , but this kit was given to me for free for helping a club member return his car to stock condition. So I tried it on my car. Installation was somewhat of a hassle. I had to jack up the car on one side, remove the wheel fender wall, and the driver's side lower front plastic cover. A swooshing/hissing sound can be heard above 3k rpm or when you immediately stomp on the gas. My gas mileage has increased a small bit, but now I suffer from a fluctuating/rough idle...It may be due to the different clamps I had to use. The original K&N clamps' bolts were stripped.

I haven't seen the Grubbs G35 intake, but if it is black and has the G35 emblem etched into it...Lokey Infiniti sells that part as well. I have seen pics of that.

You won't hear a hissing sound from the z-tube alone. IMO if you're gonna get a short ram, go with the Stillen one rather than the pop-charger. It has what they call the Venturi ring which causes the hissing sound when you stomp on the gas. And I like the Stillen design better because of how the filter is enclosed in the heatshield. I can't comment on the AEM or Injen, but you might have to look into the hydrolocking problems some of those intakes have (AEM/Nismo don't have it IIRC).

It actually looked silver in Grubbs' picture, but yes, it has the emblem and is JDM. Grubbs told me they have yet to sell one. I'll call Lokey and see if it is the same, and if it is the same price, I'll probably get it from them since they may end up doing some of my service, anyway...
