Orlando to Zdayz Caravan, Thurs morning.

I made a thread for the Orlando area Z/G folks that are rolling out early Thursday morning and heading to Fontana Village in NC.

Check it out here if you're in the area and would like to caravan with us.

I heard some stretches of 75 in GA are closed because of the fires.

As fire crews were heading back out to the firelines this morning, thick smoke rolled in. It caused several accidents in the area and officials say they had no choice but to close I-10 and I-75.

http://www.firstcoastnews.com/news/t...?storyid=81937

The road closures are as follows:

I-75 southbound is closed at the Florida-Georgia line.

I-75 northbound is closed at US 90 inLake City.

I-75 closed at exit 16 in Georgia. Traffic rerouted west on US-84 to Thomasville and then South on US 19.

I-10 westbound is closed at Sanderson/US 90 in Baker County.

I-10 eastbound is closed at US 90 west of Live Oak.

US 129 entrance ramp to I-10 is closed in Live Oak.

There is a caravan leaving from the Best Buy parking lot at 7am Thursday morning.

Let pay close attention to the wildfires and I-75 closures. We may need to take an alternate, but longer, route, such as I-95 to Savannah and then I-16 to Macon, GA to I-75.

Here is the FHP website re I-75 closures due to smoke. http://www.fhp.state.fl.us/traffic/crs_h808.htm

Maybe it won't be bad on Thursday morning, therwise, the other all-interstate route is a lot longer.

According to Yahoo maps, taking the turnpike from Orlando to I-75 and I-75 to Atlanta is 438 miles and a time of 6hours 11 minutes. The other highway alternate is I-4 to I-95 to Savannah, and then I-16 to Macon, where we pick up I-75 again. That route is considerably longer at 534 miles and 7 hours and 55 minutes.

I just got back from Atlanta last night, the smoke wasn't that bad at all, there was only one strech where it was somewhat smokey.
