Fun filled day

I know I wrote a book and a lot of it is npt exciting, so read what you want.

Today consisted of a whole lot of nothing, that took a whole lot of time. Before heading to the track soon with these great temperartures, I wanted to clean my K&N filter. While I was at it, I decided to clean my throttle body and MAF. I'm at 59,600 miles...soon approaching the big 60k!

Jose came over to join me since he needed to clean his K&N filter, too. I started around...I don't know....6pm and Jose soon joined me. I took off the power duct and the Z-tube, disconnected the battery, then removed the MAF sensor. We cleaned the filters according to this (http://g35driver.com/forums/showthread.php?t=116790) method. I've never cleaned the air filter before...so I can't compare the method I used and the K&N way, but it worked pretty damn well.

My throttle body wasn't too dirty since Chuck cleaned it for me when he helped install my Crawford plenum, but I still decided to spray it down with some product from CRC..I forgot the name of it. The throttle body came out sparkly clean...ok, well not sparkly, but it came out clean.

After realizing that Jose bought the same CRC product that I used to clean my throttle body, we went back out to get the CRC Mass Air Flow Sensor Cleaner. It was already after 10pm, so we had to go to Autozone. I don't see it, so I purchased the CRC QD Electrical Cleaner. I ask the cashier if they had any MAF cleaner...he said they don't and it doesn't exist and recommended me not to mess with the MAF. So as soon as we got home, I googled and BOOM....CRC Mass Air Flow Sensor Cleaner. It seems that Pepboys is the only place that carries the product, so that will have to wait until tomorrow.

So I'm all finished up and Jose starts my car for me. It hesitates a bit and then fires up. It sounded like a pissed off G on steroids. It was awesome...but that was just the engine spitting out the throttle body cleaner and A LOT of smoke. So I get out to hear my exhaust and shut my door enough to where it's shut, but still cracked. As I go to get back in my car, I realize my doors locked automatically. WTF??? I guess since I unplugged the battery, it reset my KP Tech window module...so now my doors lock automatically if my car is running. Luckily, my windows were still cracked down a bit since the door did not completely shut. I managed to push down the window about 1/2" and for about 20 minutes, I tryed to unlock the doors or roll the windows down with the end of a shirt hanger. I finally said F it and jammed a gold club down and rolled down the passenger window and got in my car.

We go upstairs to clean up and I noticed that a 40+" tv has been sitting in my apartment building hallway for 3 days now. So we decided to bring it in my apartment. It turns on fine...the volume works, but the screen does not. O well, but it was a damn funny thing to do. We tried being so quiet, but the tv was creaking like crazy. I can just imagine all the neighbors looking at us through the peepholes thinking "Damnit, why didn't I do that sooner". So I now need to find out how much it will cost to fix it.

Then as Jose is reassembling his stuff, he puts his Z-tube on without attaching the black hose that attaches to the bottem of it. Then he starts up the car and is freaking out because it was in limp mode.... oops!@# He forgot to plug back in the MAF. What an idiot...

Right. Good thing you guys just watched us do the suspension install on my car instead of actually helping.

Where did you guys do this? In a parking lot or in Jose's garage?

I've heard people say that you should clean the MAF after you put a K&N filter in. Supposedly the oil in the filter will get on the MAF and do bad things. I dunno... I've had a K&N for quite a while and never cleaned my MAF.

How did the MAF cleaning go?

It was done out in front of my garage.

I forgot to *** the I jacked my car up and took out my Rogue Engineering short throw shifter and re-lubed it up because ever since my transmission was replaced, it felt pretty notchy. Somehow, there were tons of metal shavings around the pivot ball/cup of the shifter. I cleaned that up and all is well, now. It took so long because it got dark before I could put the shifter back in...so I had to "feel" for things. It was horrible.

We didn't get a chance to do the MAF yesterday, we had the wrong product. Today we are going to get the right product and get it done.

And in addition to the above (now spending 10 hours working on yours cars), going to Biltho and waiting around 5 hours to get one run in--and misshifting...
