Beluga Racing Axleback Review

Pick u a 37 coupe 2 weeks back and the first thing I noticed was how quiet it was. I didn't want an exhaust that was too loud. Just something that I could hear when I got on it. Looked around the forum and thought the Tanabe axleback would be the way to go. Saw the price and didn't think it would be worth it when a majority of ppl were saying the Topspeed and Beluga Racing clones are just as good for 1/3 the price. I ordered the Beluga Racing since Topspeed were out of stock till june.

When I received the Beluga Racing axleback I was surprised with the bang for the buck quality I received. For $250 I was happy with what I got. Welds looked clean and no obvious shortcuts were taken. Fit and finish was great. I took it quickly over to the exhaust shop for installation. The drive side exhaust was a 1/4" too high and too close for comfort to the bumper. But, after some massaging everything lined up perfectly. I am happy with fitment.

The sound is a little louder than stock at idle and gets exponentially louder as the RPMS climb. The tone is more bassy and idle has more character. There is a slight hint of drone from 2750 -3000k RPM. While cruising down at 30mph, with the radio and a/c off, you can hear the exhaust in the background. It is as loud as the tire noise. But, when you put your foot into it just screams. You can hear it no matter what.

For $250 I am happy with the purchase but I think it might be just a hint too loud for me. From what I been reading this is one of the quietest aftermarket exhausts. I just wish the volume was somewhere between this and stock. I haven't driven on the highway so I will update this thread with my thoughts as soon as I do.

First day commuting to work with the Beluga Racing axleback. I hit the highway for the first time and had the same experience I had with it on local streets . When in 7th gear, at approx 2100 rpms, you could hear it humming along at the same volume as the tire noise. The negative with it is when you hit a hill and either upshift into the drone area of the rpm range or get drone from the engine struggling up the hill in 7th. I thought I would just shift to 5th but that just made the exhaust scream.

Not taking anything away from this exhaust. It is doing exactly what it was made to do.... SCREAM whenever you put your foot on it. I am thinking my taste in exhaust has changed over the years and want something more quiet.

Any suggestions I what I can do to quiet this exhaust down? I am seriously considering putting my stock exhaust back on and putting the axleback up FS on the forum.
